That is a good question. I wondered the same thing. I was on Follistim for IUIs and GonalF for IVF. I don't know the answer.

When we did our first IVF, I only used Gonal-F (FSH) for stimulation. We got 19 eggs but our old RE felt my estradiol was too low for the amount of eggs they retrieved. She thought by adding HMG (Repronex/Menopur) to the Gonal-F for our next cycle that I would produce better eggs and maybe get our BFP.

Our 2nd cycle failed due to sperm issues and our 3rd cycle failed as well. For our 4th attempt I did a protagonist cycle but still used Gonal-F and Menopur. That cycle was the worse for us.

Our new RE does not feel my estradiol needs to be as high per egg, especially since I have blood clotting issues. For our 5th cycle I will only be using Gonal-F for stimulation.

So I think part of it is how they think your body will respond based on your previous labs and any past cycles. The other part is their preference.

Try not to worry about only using the Gonal-F. I am sure you produced great eggs and will be praying for you to get your BFP!

I was on Gonal-F without Repronex for my first IVF cycle - but after they monitored me for a few days the doc decided I wasn't responded as well to the Gonal-F as they would like to see. She told me they put the patients that aren't responded as well on Repronex too. So if you're not on it it is probably a good thing! :)

I used repronex for all 3 of my IUI's last fall(2008)and only had two big follies, this last one I just did I took clomid 3xday for 7 days and had 4 big follies.

For my first IVF cycle I was placed on Repronex. I am a poor responder so I believe that is why it was added to my protocol. I am starting another cycle next month and again they have me on Repronex.
