Letter? Thats weird. But it sounds like yes you do have PCOS. I would go see teh doctor sooner or find one that can see you sooner if you really want to get teh ball moving. They can give you meds to kick start ovulation.

Sending a letter is an odd way of letting a women know she has PCOS. You expect it with pap smear results, but not something like this. It sounds like you do have PCOS. I agree with Nikki, get an appointment right away and start getting treated. Good luck to you!

i know...i cant believe i got a letter either..when i had the ultrasound, i asked the lady what would happen next...she said i get an appointment to go in an discuss the results...

but they havnt even given me an appointment! the letter says i have to go back to the gp again, get them to write and refer me again...it just dosnt make sense...

Yes it is treatable. I have it. May I recommended the pcos group here at DS. The women are so insightful and helpful and friendly. You can have pco and have no symptoms. That would make you as fertile as any normal woman. But since you are showing symptoms. You will need some assistance maybe at kick starting your ovaries. I'm here if you have any questions.

As soon as you wrote GP I knew you had to live in the UK....Ladies Dr's work very diffrently in the UK (it is not at all unusual to get notified by letter) - I know this doesn't help. A word of advice - whenerver you go in - don't wait for results - make a follow up appt.... as you know it may take weeks - you can always cancel your appt.

Just to easy your mind. My cousin has PCOS and didn't Ovulate. But with her Doctors help has had 3 children. Ages 8-1. So you will be ok. Just get a Doctor working on it as soon as you can!

PCOS is hard to just out right "diagnose". Unlike other illnesses, it's typically discovered by putting together a combination of symptoms that have no other known cause. The classic triad, they say, is multiple cyst on the ovaries....overweight w/ difficulty in losing weight...and typically, hair issues (hair thin on the head and/or more likely hair growing on your body or face where it shouldn't be). On top of that lovely three, I also had extremely high insulin in my blood causing low blood sugar levels, and I never ovulated and my cycles were irregular.

I agree taht your doc should have called you at the very least to EDUCATE you on what it is and how you can treat it. And fear not....you can treat it. There is treatment for when you are not trying to conceive (most commonly Metformin and birth control pills) and then when you ARE trying to conceive Metformin and Clomid are the starting cocktail of choice.

You can find alot of info on teh internet but don't get too scared, there is also alot of crap out there. Your GP could, at the very least, verify the results and put you on Metformin. This balances out your insulin/sugar levels, may help you loose a few pounds and could even kick start your ovulation. Beyond that, just know that it's very common....veyr treatable...and your VERY not alone.
