I am a HUGE baby when it comes to needles so I was terrified to try acupuncture but I did and I LOVE IT! I look forward to my next session as I am leaving from one that I just finished!

The pain really isn\'t anything more than a quick pinch. Once the needles are in you don\'t feel them at all. They barely go in and if for some reason one is hurting you then just let them know and they will either take it out or pull it out a little ways so it\'s not so deep.

The needles are also not really needles but more like little flexible wires.

The cost seems to vary quite a bit. When I decided to look into it I called a bunch of places looking for one the specialized in infertility. I found a great place and they are VERY knowledgeable but also expensive. It costs me $85 a session. At first I was going once every 2 weeks. Now I am going twice a week because I\'m in the middle of my IVF cycle.

I went to accupuncture several times for migraines. I didn\'t get as far as for IF but a friend of mine did. The needles don\'t hurt at all. You will barely feel them. I actually thought it was quite relaxing and really enjoyed it. I live in NY and the treatments ran about $50 and lasted about an hour. So I would think cost-wise it would be somewhere around that.

I am not sure what kind of insurance you have but we have Anthem BC/BS and ours covers acupuncture. All we pay is a $5 copay. I would check with your carrier. I am not sure how well it works--I only went once. It did not hurt at all though! Best of luck to you!

I truly believe in acupunture. I tried it after two failed ivf\'s and got pregnant the first month after using acupunture. Although the pregnancy didn\'t make it, I have hope for the furture. My acupunture person says there are things she can do to help with egg quality. I have to wait a cycle (I just lost the preg. on May 5th). I am going back then. I live in the Boston area and it was 150 for first visit and 70 for each visit after that. It didn\'t hurt. I felt very relaxed. Only one time did I feel the needles and that was only tiny pricks. I went on day 4 of my cycle, day 9, then day I ovulated (which I skipped b/c I couldn\'t get there). I might have went one more time between day 9 and cycle day, but I can\'t recall. I really didn\'t think it was going to work so I was just kinda going through the motions. One more thing. My doctor said it is good to do it right after a failed cycle because the drugs are still in your system and may help too. Good luck to you.

I\'m doing accupuncture in prep for my 2nd IVF and have had about 5 sessions. I really like it and am hoping for the best. I have had a few needles that were uncomfortable after she placed them in but if you tell them they can adjust them to your comfort. My first session was $150ish and each one after that is $65. The first visit took about 2 hours with the consultation and then the treatment. Each subsequent visit was about 45 each. Once you get the needles in place I lay there for 30 min and relax.
The best thing is that you can feel it working. As soon as they put the needles in each place, you can feel a radiating force of some sort going through your body. It\'s very difficult to describe but that\'s as close as I can get.

Like you, MomHopes, I have heard much talk of acupunture and it has my curiousity peaked. The only worries I\'d have about it is 1)cost and 2) Is it medically/scientifically proven to really do anything? I used a chiropractor for years. Sure, the visits were relaxing and felt good, but it never did cure me. I had a degenerative disease and no matter how much I paid, the chiro couldn\'t "heal" me.

I know of many many ladies (as I\'m a teacher) who have gotten pregnant through IUI\'s and IVF\'s and acupunture was never a part of their treatment.

Before I pay a ton of money for all those visits, I\'d have to know that it was medically proven to help in some way.

Well, I called and have my first appointment today! It seems very expensive...more than what a lot of you pay. $180 for the first visit and $120 for the next visits. I called my insurance company and they say it\'s covered but this medical center is pre-pay and then your insurance company is supposed to reimburse you so DH is skeptical it will work. I figure I\'ll go once or twice and if we don\'t get reimbursed I may quit. I\'m getting kind of nervous but excited too!

I pay $59 per session. Can\'t remember how much I paid for the first visit. If you get someone good, it should help you, although it is not proven to help everyone. There ARE clinical studies that have documented the benefits of acupuncture when used in combination with ivf. I highly recommend it. let me know if you have any specific questions. I have done a lot of research in this area.

I have done acupuncture for the last 3 months and decided yestarday after a failed retreval that I\'m not going to do it anymore! My husband lovs it but I hate it. The inital consult was $125 with office visits of $85 + any hebal meds. They specialised in infertility. The needles would always hert going in and I began to tense up at the start of every session. They also used electricity on the needles above my overys which I didn\'t like. The cupping was proberbly the least painfull but left large purple circles on my back. Not great for summer. So I\'m glad I tried it, but can say it\'s not my thing!

You should definitely give it a try, there are many things acupuncture can do for you while undergoing IVF, and many clinics use acupuncture in conjunction with their programs.

I did acupuncture w/ 2 of my IVF cycles last year. It only hurts sometimes and for a nano-second. One place I went charged $90 an hour and the second place I went charged $65 an hour, my insurance reimbursed me for 80% of it. You\'d have to check w/ your insurance company to see if it\'s covered under your plan. I found it to be very relaxing and although I didn\'t get a BFP w/ those cycles, I think it made going through the IVF process less stresful.
