Mine was about an 8. Painful but quick. It ended up showing that I had uterine polyps, which could have been preventing me from getting pregnant. Two months after I had the polyps removed, I was pregnant (ended in a miscarriage - different room), but I'd do it again if I had to. Definately take advil before hand. I had no cramping or bleeding afterwards.

I had mine last monday and for me it was awful. Trembling pain... but when it was done, the pain was done too. Good luck, and for your own peice of mind, do get it done.

They told me tylenol before going in. my pain scale was probably a 4 but the pain went away as soon as they were done and then I just felt a little sore (like a 1 or 2) for the next hour. I saw the whole thing right there and could see my tubes were open.

My Ob/Gyn recommended I take 4 Advil before going, and I'm glad I did. My pain was probably a 5 or 6 on the scale, but would have been worse without the Advil.

OUCH!!! not the most comfortable experiance, but not bad enough to make you cry... Close though. At least mine was because both of my tubes were blocked, so the Dr tryed to flush them out i guess, he just kept going until finally said wee i tryed to push thru, and ur tubes r too scared! I was hoping if he just could blow the way thru, i could handle the pain... but NOPE!!!

I got my results right away and the rating for me would be about a 2. Good luck and think postively!

I had two HSGs. One 8 years ago and one 2 weeks ago.

It really depends on the doctor and also how relaxed you are.

The one I had 8 years ago - 0. It was OK. You'll just feel pressure when the contrast goes in.

The one 2 weeks ago...about a 7. I blame the doctor and the hospital. They're cheap as heck.

I suggest you use a more spectulum(?) I tend to be small down there - that's why I would need a cesarean. And relax. Don't eat beforehand. Maybe a glass of wine would help though :-)

If you have any blockages, it will hurt, close to a 10, but it is quick and subsides fast. Typically, they don't sedate you and the whole procedure should takes around 5-10 minutes. I've had 2. First one was 5 years ago. I had a blockage in one tube and the pressure of the dye hitting the blockage is what caused the pain/pressure. I had another one a year ago and since there were no blockages, there was absolutely no pain. It's quick and will be over before you know it. If there are no blockages, you shouldn't have any pain.
