Hi Ladies;

After much soul searching (and a good long chat with a friend who is also experiencing IF) I though I'd may as well stop trying the natural fertility stuff which is costing a bomb and not really doing much and sit my time out enjoy the coming Aussie summer and relax until next year when I can start working again and o ahead with our IVF. I spoke to DH about it last night, but he is dead against it and wants to keep going for at least a few more moths with the natural stuff...

his reasoning... if we have gone this far, why not give it the best shot we can! However, because I am not working we are eating into our savings, which are considerably depleted and will probably only really cover 1 one of IVF if we are lucky.

I don't know what to do, I feel really confused and though I don' want to have it all my way, I just feel that we are making a mistake by spending what little we have on something that which I am starting to believe will not give us any results

any thoughts would be really appreciated

How long have you been doing the "natural stuff"? Could you meet your DH in between and do another month?

We discussed doing the natural stuff till December... that will be 9 months, however there are new proposed changes to government funding of IVF here in Aus (which I have just found out about) which will mean an great increase in out of pocket expenses to what already is a massive cost in the first place... now I am more unsure than ever... GULP

From someone about to pay their first oop IVF procedure I'd say it might not hurt to try a few more months with the natural stuff.

Maybe come to a agreement that you will try for 2 months and take the other two to enjoy your summer.

I'm not sure I would rush into IVF. I totally understand your desperation for a child, however, here in the States we aren't even referred to a RE until 1 full year of trying with no success. My husband and I tried for 2 years before we FINALLY conceived naturally. We will be 9 wks pregnant on Sunday, and still cant believe it happened naturally. We had seen a RE and was told IVF was our only option, so we started saving money back in January, little did we know 8 months later we would be getting our BFP. I know right now it seems like FOREVER and every month is a constant disappointment and it breaks your heart, but I would give it a little while longer before I went to IVF. My suggestion consider everything--consider the costs will increase due to the change in law, look at your age, look at your health--do you have endo or some other medical condition that explains your infertility, look at what your doctor recommends. For example, I am 37 and have endo. My doctor has told me if I do not get pregnant after 3 attempts at IUI then I need to move to IVF. My DH and I are hoping one of the IUI's will work because we are paying for our own treatments. Therefore, we do not have have $10,000 for IVF.

thanks for your comment blbusmc0311. DH and I have been TTC for almost three years so this is really not a rushed decision... we have tried everything and I wish that it would happen normally but alas it hasn't.

however you just never know and stories such as yours really gives me hope!

last night we sat down with DH and have decided to look into IVF

I am hoping that after all this time we finally get the little bundle we so desperately want!!!

oh and thanks to everyone else! It is so fantastic to be able to chat to you ladies and bounce ideas around which can't really be understood by anyone else but those going through this craziness
