Long story short, me and my husband have been trying to conceive for almost 2 years. We attempted 4 IUI cycles of which all of them failed. My husband had an enlarged varicocele vein that was the explanation as to why his counts/morphology/motility were so low. So we decided for him to have a varciocelectomy (because it was the cheaper route) well we had our f/u last week and the counts are basically the SAME!!!! I was so mad and sad and in a whirl wind of emotions because I just don't understand how it didn't work! The motility went up 12% but we are still under the abnormal range. I think our next and final option is IVF. We go to a class next Tuesday to learn more about the process and what to expect. I know that there are so many people with fertility issues but I still get so frustrated that it is happening to me and why it is so easier for other people.

True, this is not an easy process and it requires mental strength, and you will be surprised to find how much you have.
IVF can be a great solution, so we should give it a chance, fill up hope and believe it will happen.
Your questions structured, we all ask or asked the same questions, Try not to make it harder for yourself. This happens, its not your fault and you are not alone and the most important thing is that there are plenty of success stories!

I don't know if you already know this, but our doctor told us that it can take up to a year to see the results of a varicocelectomy. So maybe don't give up on those results yet! Apparently it can take up to a year because after removing the veins there can be a lack of blood flow to the area and it can take up to a year for the body to reroute the blood flow so that there is an optimal level of blood and heat. We have done three semen analyses post surgery, and with each one the results have been dramatically better. Unfortunately for us, the morphology is still at 0% normality, so we are going to do a sperm penetration test to see whether the sperm can penetrate an egg if they ever were to reach one. If they can't, then it will be straight to IVF for us rather than trying IUI. But just so you know, if your husband's motility improved, the morphology likely also improved (varicocelectomies are supposed to improve morphology more than anything), but you might not be able to tell that in the lab results because the percentage is already so low. That is what our doctor told us anyway. Our morphology percentages only showed whole numbers, so for all we know, my husband's morphology could have been 0.10% to begin with, and may have doubled or tripled or quadrupled to 0.20% or 0.30% or 0.40% without us even knowing. But maybe your results showed smaller percentages than ours did!
Anyway, even if our varicocelectomy did not fix everything, I like to think that it will at least make things easier for IUI or IVF. Good luck!!! Infertility is just so frustrating!!
I hope that you learn a lot in your IVF class and that you get your BFP! IVF was not the route for us - we miraculously adopted (we are foster parents and got to adopt a precious baby girl that we were fostering)...I will NEVER "accept/get over" our I/F but I am learning to cope with it, and a cute little girl helps me through it!
