Also, is there a " magic" number of egg that should be retrieved?

I have heard that 5 day tends to be more successful. Lots of 3 days are succesful though.
I ask my RE the same question about the magic number. He says they aim for around 15 eggs. I had 16 eggs retrieved, 13 were mature, 11 fertilized, 8 made it to 5 days, we transferred 2 and have 3 frozen. So basically out of 16 retrieved we have 5 usable embryos.

My RE told me there's no "magic" number of follicles or eggs -- whatever your body produces is whatever your body produces. I have POFS, and my girls produced around 5 eggs at each of my 2 retrievals. My RE was pleased with this result, especially since I ended up having a good fertilization ratio.

I've read that day 5 transfers are better. Having said that though, in my 5 IVFs, two of mine were 4 day transfers and three were three day transfers. The one that worked was a three day transfer.

They never did a five day transfer with me because I was over 40 when I did IVF.

The clinic I had IVF at only does 3 day transfers because they believe the safest place for an embryo to grow is inside of the mom, not under a scope. I think each clinic varies on what they tell their patients. I also wasn't given the choice for a 5 day transfer. It worked the second time!

The reason that 5 day transfers tend to be more successful is because the embryo survived to day 5. At day 3 sometimes you don't know if it'll keep growing, but it's been proven that a uterus is a much better incubator, so a 3 day transfer can be just as successful...assuming the embryo keeps growing! Does that make sense? That said, lots of people have had successful 3 day transfers and my last fresh transfer was an unsuccessful 5 day. A lot of babble just to say that both are good :)

Also my clinic says they like to see 8-14 eggs, depending on your age.

Thanks ladies. I read some info and it was saying 15 was the magic number. Mixed reviews on the 3 or 5 day transfer. I will just need to trust my RE.

If you get 15 you are rocking it. I didn't get that many and only 2 of ours made to the embryo stage. One was a fresh transfer at 5 days (it resulted in a BFN) then we took a break for 2 months. I was really only hanging on by an emotional thread at that point. Knowing I had a frozen last hope in the bank was comforting because I knew once we used it that was would be it... Thousands of dollars, years of work and lots of energy all rested on one last hope. Thank God he was s strong little fighter who is now 16 months old. But my feelings are (if I do IVF again) I will not be doing a fresh transfer. You don't have to do a fresh transfer if you don't want to. Personally after all the injections running around for blood tests ...ect. I think my body needed a few months of rest. Personally I would ask your RE about just freezing your embryos right away and allowing your body some time to rest.
