Ok so now that I have a job that covers fertility treatments DH and I are planning on jumping back on the band wagon. Our first attempt at IVF was with Dr. Silber (one of the best) and it failed. He is not covered by our insurance so we will either need to pay for his portion out of pocket and then get reimbursed partial....or....try to find a different RE. Does anyone know any REs in the St. Louis, MO area other than Dr. Silber that they have been to or have heard good things about? I really like Dr. Silber, but don't know if we can pay anything out of pocket right now. HELP!!!

We had this insurance that didnt cover IVF...everything but IVF. So when we could, we switched to an insurance that covered it. At the time we had already been with an IVF clinic for over a year. I soon found out that our current clinic didnt take our new insurance. We would have to pay 20% out of pocket. We couldnt afford 20% of anything!! So I found out who was in network and who took our insurance 100%. I called my current IVF clinic to get copies of all my records to bring with me to the new clinic. They were very curious as to why I wanted to leave. I made sure they understood it wasnt the care I had been receiving it was just the cost. Well they did not want to lose me as a patient....so they waved the 20% co-pay and just took the 80% the insurance company would pay.

So the point of my LONG story (sorry about that) is that maybe once your RE knows you are looking to leave he could work something out with you. Otherwise I would call your insurance company to see what Infertility Doctors are in your network. Then go from there.

Since you now have coverage you may want to try someone who takes your insurance. I am not sure if all insurance companies are the same, but I know that mine (BCBS) covers a certain amount of treatments BUT it depends on how many I've already done. So if they covered 4 cycles lifetime and I did 3 out of pocket they would only cover 1 cycle. They don't care who paid for them, once the life time amount of cycles is met I am cut off. (I hope that made sense)

Try going to this site and looking up some centers in your area and their stats. Good luck!

My new insurance is Aetna. They pay 25K lifetime. So we are starting from scratch and they don't have any "prerequisits" (sp?) I would have to pay 100% upfront to the Dr. (not the hospital or anything else, just actualy RE) and then would get 70% of that back. We sort of have the money. Meaning we have it to pay for adoption. The main issue I have with changing REs is my comfort level with the one I currently have. He is one of the best. People travel from all over just to see him. I'm worried that I would feel like I was getting 2nd best if I went somewhere else. That is why I wanted to know if there was anyone in the St. Louis area that had seen someone other than Silber so I could get outside (yet still firsthand) opinions on care provided by other REs in the area. Thank you for the suggestions so far though!

first of all congrats on getting ins to cover treatment, it is a big burdon lifted to know that you won't have to do everything out of pocket.I would call RE and find out exactly how much you would be out of pocket for him, like pp said he might just waive it. I have Anthem and all of my fees are discounted to the preferred provider rate which is a fraction of the full cost even when it is something they don't cover.
