You're right. Online support is great but it cannot possible take the place of someone actually being there for you when you just need a hug.

That's one reason I find 12 steps and groups who reflect my interests --like Book Clubs, Quilting, Drumming, Weight Loss groups and organizations that feature local speakers I can get to know, all very helpful.

The book club I joined two years ago has brought some wonderful people into my life. One has become a close friend for which I am very grateful. It took time and effort on my part but I believe you can do the same thing.

You need to go out find what you need in safe places.

Welcome. It can be very lonely. I have never sought out a group or solo therapy. It just scares me, though DS has been a life saver for me.
I hope you can find a friend and some peace.

I can so relate. My partner is wonderful but its not the same. I've lost most of my friends recently due to death and one a drug addiction. I can't deal with that. A number of reasons and it feels lonely at times. I do know the healthier you become the more lonely the journey gets. There are things you can do or get involved with to make new friends as someone else mentioned. Even volunteering. Can bring new relationship to you. Good luck. Hugs

I feel the same way. I am at the point in my recovery where I am trying to make healthy choices (diet, exercise, no alcohol), but I find that I am very lonely because drinking with friends was one constant in most of my friendships.

It is not the only thing I enjoy with my friends, but I do find myself sometimes avoiding them lately in an effort to avoid temptation. So, I spend more time alone reading and exercising.

One thing I have noticed is that one of my friends, she and I seem to be feeding on each other in a positive way. We have both been encouraging each other to read more, eat healthier and occassionaly walk together.

I do miss the drinking, but my self-esteem, energy and work performance are so much better without them. Sometimes it's okay to be lonely. Being alone doesn't have to mean being lonely.

I've been filling out my wishes when something happens to me that I can't make my own decision and I feel loneliest I felt in years anyone else experience that?
