That really took me back for a moment. I did have a dream like that and often. The room was in through a tiny little door in the back of the closet in the bedroom of my grandparents house. Behind that door was a magical land just for me.

Wonder if other had this place too? I'm sure my "magical land" was at my grandparents home because that is where the abuse occurred.

It reminds me of the book The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. I loved that book so much. I thought it was so cool how they could escape through the door in the back of the wardrobe. I would often escape via books. You must have a very creative mind!

I have always had a garden in my mind. It is enclosed behind a really tall brick wall. There is a certain brick that has to be pushed in just the right way to open a secret box that has a key inside. There is another brick that opens up to a gate that is opened by the key. That has always been my safe place

There was a huge weeping willow tree ( how appropriate ) that I would go sit under and with me I brought my books or dolls. I was "safe" and I heard nothing and saw only the wisps of the willows"arms" swaying around me. Keeping out all evil.

Not really a room technically or a dream but my reality.

I had a tent in a friends yard. When my dad was drunk and coming after me that where I went. It was safe and so peaceful.

My Gran had a friend who lived with her. She let me keep my dolls in her room rather than my own house - I don't remember thinking about it at the time but looking back I guess I must that thought they'd be safe there.

What an excellent post. I remember being asked to find a safe space through counselling, which I never had one. So I was asked to draw one and I drew my safe place which I then began to go to whenever I needed to. There was a pass word to get into it and no one else knew it unless I gave them it. Was a very comforting thing.

In counselling I've also dreamed up my safe room. I only use it when things are bad during the sessions, it doesn't seem to work elsewhere. The room is completely white with nothing in except me and a white cushion or fleece to cuddle. There is no darkness and no where for anything to hide behind.

My dream "safe room" was a gypsy caravan that would come to the park near my house, whenever I was scared, I would go there and the gypsies would take me away with them.

I also had a real "safe room", it was a huge bush at the park near my house with a formed seat between the branches. I could climb up there, read my books, never be seen.

I didn't have a safe place I just tried not to go home sometimes. I did used to use the blankets kinda like a shield I guess. I would pull all the ends in under me and I always thought that would help and make me safe if I were in that little cover cave. The other thing was when I would run at Volleyball practice. I would always just picture that I could run away and not be there anymore and if I ran away it would be better so I would pretend run away at practice.

My councilor said something about the safe place once and I just kinda ignored her because I was more focused on not wanting to talk to her than wanting to talk to her. Does that really work? Drawing it or imagining a place and if it does can it be a place you have actually gone before?

My secret room was in a dream and did not exist in reality. But your secret safe room can be anything that makes you feel safe.

Baily - it works for me. when I have a shit memory or have to go somewhere that's really hard I can now see myself in the room and it helps hugely. Today was even better because I was able to see myself in my husband's arms.

I had many dreams where i was trapped with no way out. It was never a room. it was situations, such as fighting the devil in hell, a monster chasing me and i am unable to run becasue of some unexplained force holding me back, etc.
