I am learning how I got through all of those years of abuse. I shut down emotionally. I thought that my dad loved me at least that is what he told me...but he was just using me. I don't remember my mom loving me, I don't remember hugs from her. She still doesn't love me...she thinks that I was enticing my dad....from the age of 5.....whatever.
Now I feel empty emotionally. Totally empty.
I say that I love my husband and my three sons and my granddaughters but, the emotion isn't there. Like I am saying what is excepted of me.
Does this make any sense?
How do you turn the emotions back on after all these many years?
Thanks in advance for your replies !!!!

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

Those parts of us hold more than the trauma - they hold a lot of our aliveness, our capacity for feeling, and our capacity for joy, creativity, and much more.
We are not stuck like this. Are you in therapy? Reconnecting with the traumatized parts of you is a scary process and has to be handled with care, and with the support of an experienced counselor, I think.
I've recently started this process. I've had glimmerings of the rewards and hope to be a full-color, three-dimensional woman with a heart full of love one of these days. We can do it and we deserve no less.
I liked the song by Evanescence thanks.
I loved what you said..."a full-color, three-dimensional woman with a heart full of love"
I too used to know I loved my children, but the only time I felt it I panicked and shut it down again. Now, a few years later, I can feel the love and it is wonderful. The other major emotions are also finding their place. It can be done, but it does take time and patience and concentration - and probably help from your therapist. It can't be done properly theoretically, but when she sees you experiencing an emotion, she could help you to identify them and to name them.
Take heart - it will come.

As for the lack of affection, love feelings I too have this same issue and do now see there's hope in finding it again. I say I love you a lot and it seems dead, but I know its there truly. We have to give ourselves some patience too. Hugs and have good day.
