In 1991, my 6-year-old cousin was kidnapped and murdered by a repeat offender pedophile. He'd had dozens of victims, many of which didn't come forward until my cousin's trial when they were paraded out into the court room...dozens of little girls an boys this man had raped.
Just the day before my cousin was kidnapped and murdered, this man raped another little girl on her way to school and she didn't come foward until my cousin had been missing nearly two weeks and the little girl's mother connected the dots between this man's truck (he'd been staying with them) and the truck of a man who'd been spotted talking to my cousin.
A big problem with child molestation is kids don't come forward. They are scared, ashamed, have been threatened, or their families have been threatened, think they have done something wrong, etc... so they don't tell anyone and the abuse goes on for them or for other children.
Instead of making it a shameful tabboo in our society, we need to start drilling it into kid's heads at a young age that their body's are sacred and private, and that if they are violated, it's not their fault and they should immediately report the abuse. We need to eliminate the shame associated with abuse so we can stop children from suffering in silence and prevent abusers from having multiple victims. Once one victim comes forward, it tends to be an avalanche affect, and more and more victims of that single abuser start to come forward. This should be a priorty in schools, homes, and medical centers. Mental well being and lives depend on it.
