is it normal for a man to experience erectile dysfunction as he ages?

I talked to my doctor about this the last time I was in there, and he said it could be a symptom of Toprol XL (my BP medicine) or one of the other medicines I'm on,, but I don't know. Personally I think he just didn't feel comfortable helping me deal with the problem, and being my family doctor, that had me concerned that he wasn't concerned about it, ya know?

Its just that, I'm 38 years old, and my father had prostate Cancer when he was 43, so it does concern me to have those tests for that periodically, but my current family doctor doesn't want to deal with it.

honestly, I'm most concerned that if I do end up getting prostate cancer, or an enlarged prostate, that I'll have to have a cathetor. I had a cathetor once just after a rectal surgery, and I begged and begged the doctor to take it out that day, for I did not like it one bit! A cathetor was the most uncomfortable experience I've been thru in my life, and I could never ever go thru that again. It felt as if I had no muscle control at all, and my penis being really tiny actually folding into itself, only made it that much more painful.

so I'm scared... I mean, I would like to have sex with a girl again one day, and actually have an errection function, possibly even ejaculate. Normally in my younger years when I was sexually active, I either won't get an errection at all, or I'd premature ejaculate and not be able to ejaculate at all again for the rest of the day at least.

Since I have no male friends, and whenever I try to make a guy friend on here they accuse me of being "gay", I don't have anybody to talk to about these things. My dad doesn't like me because I'm blind, ever since birth he's never wanted anything to do with me because of my poor eyesight, and guys over the computer or in real life won't talk to me accusing me of being "gay" just for saying hello, so its really frustrating trying to find a guy to talk about guy things with.
