Hi, just joined this group, been a member of DS a while on other groups. Anyway, I've just been referred to a gyny consultant from my colorectal surgeon. (I was diagnosed with colon cancer 4 years ago and had surgery and chemo). Over last couple of months been having really bad abdomen pain and back pain, mainly at night, after checking for re occuring probs with my cancer and for bowel obstruction, my surgeon said everything with that is fine, but the ct showed my womb is very enlarged with fibroids. I do have really heavy periods. he thinks i may benefit from a hysterectomy, but it will be up to the gyny consultant in the end. Is a hysterectomy common for this problem? Am I likely to keep my ovaries?. I'm not worried about the hyster, I'm 49 had my kids and got a grandson so can live without my womb, just wondering what to expect really, any comments much appreciated. thanks
