Hysterectomy Support Group
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.
I did have a pain pump for my first surgery which was for an exploded ovary/cyst. They can be quite dangerous so don't hesitate in having that removed. You can die--not trying to scare you--really. I had another issue in my gut when that happened too. I was pretty sick and had generalized peritonitis. I was going to be brave and not take the pain meds but it worked out well. I was able to get up and walk earlier and start recovering sooner than I might have otherwise.
If you have a wide elastic band around your middle, it helps with confidence too. It sure helped me. Take things like walking slow and easy for a week or so. Then increase as you feel like it. Make sure you eat well, maybe not too much at once but several times a day. My body was my friend and told me when to rest or try more.
You will most likely sleep more than usual. Normal. You may vary off what my experiences were but I think you will feel better once you recover. I sure do.
