Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
Some people do well on Armour, some on T4 with Cytomel, and others do good on T4 alone.
Thought I would pitch in here, there was a time I was taking meds (beta blockers for my heart rate) but besides that I have never been given any medication becuase my thyroid sometimes jumps back into normal range so I dont have "established" hypo.
I have been ill for over a year now and even switched drs after I had been told I had HYPERthyroid and then later found out it was HYPO and always had been!
After that I lost faith so went the natural route, in the last month or so I have been using supplements to try and boost my thyroid, I will report back when I get the latest results to see if its worked or not but heres what I do know:
1. Taking magnesium seems to get rid of my anxiety, insomnia and muscle aches.
2. Potassium seems to get rid of cramps and help with the heart rate, I know my potassium levels are very low right now and I took a very high dose of potassium before for about a week and my face looked so much thinner.
3. I got a hair analysis done and it came back I wish deficiant in selenium and biotin, selenium is CRITICAL for thyroid function and so I started to take that and noticed a vast decrease in size of my goiter, biotin is also good for skin rashes which I was getting on the side of my face, they felt very itchy and of course the dry scalp situation.
I will post my findings when I get my next set of results, maybe its all in my mind only the medical tests will tell me im on the right path.
If Levo is not working for you, it doesn't hurt to try Armour. It may be life changing. I felt the same way on synthetics (fatigue, weak, brain fog). I noticed an immediate difference once I switched to Armour (regained muscle strength, could concentrate, less anxiety). Armour contains T4,T3,T2,T1 and calcitonin--Levo only contains T4. If you have any other questions please let me know. Good luck to you.
Josh
They say it is best to ramp up the T3 a bit slowly.
