Has anyone used low dose Naltrexone? My doctor just prescribed it for chronic fatigue but says it can be extremely beneficial in Hashimoto's because it is shown to slow autoimmune disorders so I may be able to reduce my thyroid meds...... I was just wondering if anyone else has tried it.

Yes, I am taking this for the Rheumatoid Arthritis and Graves' Disease that I have. I used to be hypothyroid for many, many years before the GD came about.

I have been on LDN now for the past ten days.

I'm hoping LDN lowers the antibodies due to the autoimmune diseases that I have.

I am thinking of trying it as well and found some info on the internet.

Can anyone provide some links to any type of medical journal article about it?

Divine Silence: do you know where your doc got the info re LDN being beneficial in Hashi's?

He is prescribing it for Chronic Fatigue but says that it can be beneficial for ANY autoimmune disorder. From what I have read the typical dose is 4.5mg but if you have hashimoto's you have to start at 1.5mg and watch your thyroid numbers closely becuse you could quickly become hyperthyroid.... so your thyroid dose has to be lowered as the LDN is increased.

mmztcass - keep me posted will you? I have to do a 4 week course of valtrex first before I start the LDN. From everything I have read I am quite excited about it.

cd3764 - He said he spoke with the italian doctor who first started using it years ago and decided to try it with his patients..... so his experience has just been with the improvement of his own patients but I've seen it backed up on the internet.

MM....are you aware of the thyroid level effects of LDN? That's news to me and I wonder how that will "fit" for both of us.....

I am on the LDN boards at the Ahsta site as well as the Yahoo groups. I got all my information there. Also another site within the Rheumatoid Arthritis site which is more like the forums. I started out at 0.50 mg dose for one month. I'm getting ready to increase to 1.0 mg for the second month. I'm being cautious as to how slowly I am starting out with the LDN doses.

duh-uh.....I read about LDN on the AHSTA site but forgot about the forums - thanks mm :)

I'll have to read around about it's potential effects on thyroid hormone levels.

I have read that as it reduces the antibodies, the thyroid hormones will increase in the system. This is why they recommend starting at a lower dose of LDN so you don't start having hyperthyroid symptoms.
