Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
How do you feel now that your on medication?
When I was on T4 only, I really struggled with weight loss -- only losing 1 pound week; I accepted whatever I took off and continued forward.
I believe that I feel normal today. My progesterone and estrogen is going to be checked in 3 months as my demand. I need to know if these levels are normal. I've been lucky to only have 1 symptom -- Hot flashes -- Nobody escapes from hot flashes. I had them for the first 6 months into it and that's about it.
Please understand that you are only on T4 so this is the reason that you are having a difficult time with losing unwanted weight. T3 in the Armour helped me eradicate Depression -- one of the HYPO symptoms.
Don't give up, you can attain anything you need with endurance.
I wish you lots of luck reaching your ideal goal weight.
I had 19 symptoms and still lost it.
Doctors did not want to treat me with Armour so Cytomel. I was determined to lose the extra weight -- I also thought that I felt badly because of carrying that extra weight. As I lost it, I determined, I wasn't feeling well inside.
I know you will reach your ideal goal.
I was told for 6 years, "you're within range." The next doctor, I told her, I don't want to be told, "you're within range because these numbers don't agree with me. I have 19 symptoms and I can barely function!!
So this is the other problem that you have. Your doctor is telling you this but you don't feel well. You need to demand better care, YOU'RE PAYING FOR IT. When you go shopping, nobody tells you what to get, you're in charge of this -- a doctor's office is NO DIFFERENT! nuff said. What other symptoms do you have, if any?
I just cannot shift the weight. I have tried so many things even only
eating breakfast and lunch.
As you get older it is harder to lose weight.
So sorry to hear of your issues!
I'm around your age and had high cholesterol and glucose when my thyroid was way low.
The other issues you've shared can all be caused by hypothyroidism.
It sounds like you would be better served by a doctor who truly understands how to treat thyroid disease......and definitely one who knows to ignore TSH and, instead, optimize the FT4/FT3 levels.
I'm not sure if you've heard of Thyroid Change, a patient initiative that was formed in May 2012. They've compiled a doctor recommendation list on their website and doctors have to meet certain criteria to be on the list.
Several members from here are seeing doctors from the list with great success.

In fact, there are other ways to find a thyroid-savvy doctor and they were shared on here in an older thread:

Best of luck to you getting the proper care! It's worth every effort.
