I hope someone here may have some of the same issues. Here's some background:
I was diagnosed with Hashi's and had the left and isthmas removed because of a goiter and mass back at the end of October. Since then, the doctor has been gradually upping my Synthroid - I am now on 112. My cholestoral is also totally out of whack, (happened after the surgery), and I am on cholestoral meds as well. My doc also placed me on suppliments: fish oil, biotin, calcium, vit d, because my levels are off.
Now here's my problem: for the past 3 weeks, both of my hands have been bothering me. They are swollen, ache, "fall asleep" and go numb throughout the day and night. Strange - huh?? My Endo said he does not think it is carpal tunnel becuase both of my hands are affected and it came on quite sudden. He has placed me in splints for both of my hands to help releave the pain and I am waiting on bloodwork to see if it is a "medical" issue as opposed to carpal tunnel. He suggested it may be my electrolites, calcium difficiency, meds, or any number of issues.
Sorry about the long rant, but I just want to know which direction I should be following and if anyone else has had these symptoms. Any suggestions??

Yes I have had hands that fall asleep and are numb but the condition comes and goes. I didn't have swollen hands just swollen legs (from the hemachromatosis-iron overload.
Hands that swell, numb and falling asleep remind me of my mother. She had carpal tunnel surgery because the doctor thought that was what she had. For months after her surgery, her hands were very swollen. She has rheumatoid arthritis and the arthritis is being treated with a cancer drug. (Go figure!) She has regained the use of her hands and is sewing quilts, playing with her grandchildren and is once again swimming at the pool. Her problem may have been the arthritis all along.

Get on some natural thyroid! Dont just accept that synthroid is the only thing to take. its not and it doesnt work for everyone. Dont be like those of us who listened to our MDs for years, suffering with high cholesterol, irregular or no periods, swelling, and depression. I know, I was on Synthetic thyroid for too long and it really never did work, it just kept me alive but I had to take cholesterol meds, blood pressure meds, antidepressants you name it, now that I am on the natural stuff that is all I take.
I take the B Complex vitamins to help with my hands.

I had pain in my hands before I was diagnosed. It almost felt like arthritis. They would also shake and fall asleep. Once I was put on the medication I was okay. I would wait on the blood panel and discuss if there more options to go with the treatment. There has to be something that they can give you in addition to your current treatment. I hope you feel better.
