Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
Dont buy too much into buying every supplement mentioned in that book, he does cover everything.
The major break down in processing usually occurs in inflammation.
Liver/Stomach/General Tissue and Brain.
Liver is the major, but the gut for example processes 20% of the conversion. If you dont eat clean, or have a good gut flora or you have any number of gut issues thats just one small factor that could hinder the process. Inflammation in the bodies tissue is a big one. Liver, is pretty hardy. If you drink a lot of take a lot of medicines etc that tax your liver, could be an issue. Im just guessing as this is the first place to start. DIet.
There are products out there that have all the required conversion supplements in them. Many multi vitamins do.
When I was in NZ, I saw this product so there must be heaps in the states similar

I cant really answer it for you as Im not a doctor and its a very inprecise science. So dont take anything you read on here or the net as medical advice. Just try to look inward and find what you think is causing issues. And also keep in mind blood tests vary rapidly, I think stability wise TSH then FT4 then FT3, on any given day.
Id start with another book, Iz Wentz Root Cause
http://www.amazon.com/Hashimotos-Thyroiditis-Lifestyle-Interventions-Treating/dp/0615825796/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8
Start there, then read the first book, I probably should have said that but both imo are brilliant thyroid books. She is a Pharmacist by trade who developed hashis. But it is very basic, what to look at, what to change etc.
Thats the only one I bought, I get the first one from the library every 2 months to recap lol.
And dont write off adding T3, just be wary, your body should be able to convert t3 adequately.
And most of all speak to your doctor, say, why is my FT4 so high but my FT3 which is really what the cells use so low? And then maybe ask him for a RT3 blood test, which happens in high FT4 low conversions.
I really cant answer for you as Im not a guru or give medical advice. Just my opinions on whats helping me understand the REAL picture which a 10 min consult with an Endo wont (which to be fair is understandable).
Hope I helped some.
Ive since realised I have anxiety issues.
A poor diet. But if you dont have anti bodies, ie hashimotos, an auto immune protocol diet might not be helpful, although wouldnt hurt.
Chronic pain.
GERD.
They all added up to poor sleep and feeling crappy, of course with a poor thyroid.
And I just remembered you said you didnt have hashimotos so I dont know how good that second book would be for you. The Root Cause one.
My main stressor was work and alcohol which killed my gut.
Again, not advice, just my journey and thoughts
i wish i could say do this, try that, but its impossible.
other than checking the main things, liver, digestion, systemic inflammation.
I have gerd and bad stomach motility and i get weird rashes because of it, so for me I know thats something I personally have to work on.
too many to list, thats what im trying to fix the thyroxine converts properly, not the other way around.
you have GERD? have you been tested for too low acid levels?
doctors hand out PPIs for GERD, but quite a lot of people have low stomach acid. google it.
i have pain from my esophagus to my rectum. trying to repair that.
defenitely mention your thyroid results with the cardiologist guys.
as for testosterone, i thought that was often a cause for depression in mean etc. i dont know for sure. but that definitely needs to be discussed with the doctor. i think its treatable. us men need our test :-)
this sounds like you have a lot going on and need your doctor to coordinate all these major issues. make sure you get answers.
my thoughts are with you, i wish i could offer any advice but this is well beyond the realms of this forum imo.
