It does get better with the correct treatment. Make sure you are getting the proper labs etc. I am knew to understanding all that is modern behind the hypothyroidism. I can say it is frustrating and life changing. All I can do is.... give you is a hug and tell you to hang in there.
Make sure you read, research and understand what your body is going through and how you are being tested and treated!

What are your lab results for free t4 and free t4? Also, what is your b12, ferritin, and vitamin d levels? Include the ranges. Hypothyroidism has such awful symptoms and so do these vitamins when deficient.

I actually dont know what my levels are (I didnt think to ask I was more worried about my hair loss. BAH!!). My doc is sending me for more blood work in a few weeks so I will make sure to post them then.

Hi blixxa, I feel your pain. I've been struggling with the exhaustion for a long time too. It sucks. Just a couple things I'll throw out there that I didn't know and had to learn the hard way. They might be obvious to you or maybe you know them but just in case. I was on the generic of synthroid (levothyroxine) and was later told that though it is supposed to be the same, because it's the generic, it definitely is not. I've had multiple doctors tell me this. probably not an issue for you since you said syntrhoid in your post but just in case you are using the generic. Take on an empty stomach in the morning, don't eat for an hour after. Don't take iron or calcium supplements within 2-4 hours of taking your thyroid. I go with 4 just in case. There's also a book called "why do I still have thyroid symptoms?" by datis kharrazian that is pretty informative. Hopefully that was helpful to you or someone who reads it. I wish I would have known some of that a long time ago. Anywho, to answer your question as to "does it ever get better?" I don't know yet but I really really really hope so. You will get there and as hard as it is you just have to be patient because it's a process. Sucks I know but all we can do is keep trying. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I have hypothyroidism and take levothyroxin. I have been diagnosed for about 4 years or so now. Anyway, it is common to suffer from depression when you have thyroid problems, and with the other circumstances it could very well be depression. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin for depression and I have gone down 4 dress sizes in 2 months! I just don't have a huge appetite, and sometimes wont eat all day.

If doctors are medicating the patient properly, it's reasonable to expect to be feeling almost 100% a year after starting meds.

If a person is still dealing with symptoms, that's a sign that the meds dose and thyroid levels haven't been optimized.

Some doctors only check the patient's TSH and don't order labs frequently enough - the patient doesn't stand too much of a chance of getting well if this is what is going on.

Thyroid-savvy doctors know to check the actual thyroid hormone levels - FreeT4 and FreeT3 rather than pituitary hormone TSH.

And, those same doctors know to order labs every 6 wks. after a dose adjustment.....and they keep adjusting the dose until the patient is symptom-free.

When this happens, most likely, the patient will have FreeT4/T3 levels similar to those of a healthy person - in the upper half/upper third of the range.

This is what my doctor did for me....my symptoms gradually improved and I became symptom-free 15 months after starting meds.

My journey took a little bit longer since I need my FreeT4/T3 levels a bit higher than most people.
