So yesterday I finally got to see my new doctor and it went really well. I know some people won't agree with what I'm doing (especially my psychiatrist) but he switched me to Armour Thyroid and is taking me off of all my psych meds. He does not think I am Bipolar since my one and only manic episode happened immediately following my diagnosis of Hashimoto's and mania can be caused be Hashimoto's. For the first time in 5 years someone is checking my T3 and he ran the test for thyroid antibodies. He also ran an Epstein Barr titer to see if it may be contributing to my extreme fatigue. If the changes in medication don't do the trick he wants to take a closer look at my immune system (as this is the 4th autoimmune disorder I have had) and thinks I may have chronic fatigue.... I'm not thrilled about that possibility but at least after 5 years someone is finally listening to me and taking me seriously and not treating me like I'm just another nut case who needs more anti psychotics.

Today is day one on the Armour...... wish me luck and i'll keep you posted.

Armour seems like a great choice for peeps with Hashi's.

And, it sounds like your doctor knows what he's talking about - YAY!!!

I've read way too many posts written by peeps who went from doctor to doctor complaining of symptoms and being treated for diseases they didn't have....all because the doctor didn't think to check their thyroid or, if the doctor did check their thyroid, the doc misinterpreted the results.

The thyroid is the master regulator of the body and interacts with virtually every body system on a cellular level.

If thyroid function is "out-of-whack", it can bring on a myriad of symptoms.

I'm new to this group but have had hypothyroidism for over 8 years. I went to the doctor yesterday and requested that she switch my med to armour and she said that she doesn't think it is even being made and to check with Walgreens (where I get my perscriptions filled). I called there and talked to the pharmacist. He said that Armour has been on back order from the manufacture for months. I also inquired about Liotrix aka Thyrolar (T4:T3), he said that one also was on backorder from the manufacture. I asked why in hopes of an answer and all he said was that because they both contain natural ingredients he didn't even know if they could get either of them anytime soon.

I was wondering if anyone else has heard this or is having a problem getting either Armour or Liotrix?

There is currently a shortage of Armour and the other natural suppliments (but it seems to be getting a little easier to find these days)..... I had to call around and finally found it at a hospital pharmacy 50 miles from home...... The doctor office also gave me the number of a compounding pharmacy but it's even farther. I think you just need to get on the phone and be prepared to call around. And don't forget to call the pharmacies in the hospitals. I left a credit card on file with them and they will be mailing me my prescription from now on so I don't have to drive down there all the time. There are a couple of different ones.... Armour and Nature Thyroid are the same according to my doctor and the pharmacy so if either is available see if you can get 3 months worth.

Armour is out there, you may need to call around to find a pharmacy that has it in stock. I used to use Walgreens for my RX, but they could not keep in stock. I called smaller independent pharmacies until I found it. I never had a problem since. Good luck.

There are the same problems getting Naturethyroid... technically it is the same as Armour (I think, correct me if I am wrong)..... If looking around ask the pharmacy if they have either. I think they are interchangable.
