Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
Hypoglycemia is annoying too, i sympathize.
I will definitely keep her, and you, in my thoughts
If it's of any comfort to you, there *is* a genetic component to autoimmune diseases in general and there's not much we can do about Hashi's antibodies. Yes, we take selenium that can help lower TPOab's. However, since everyone's response to antibody levels is different, we're truly "stuck".
Quite frankly, in light of your history, I'd be inclined to have all the children's thyroids checked - and not just TSH.
Once thyroid disease entered my life, I knew I wanted to at least have a baseline for my children.
I think the more information we have in situations such as this, the better we can care for our children.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Mrs. West, I'm so sorry about you being diagnosed and the worry about your son all at the same time. It's hard enough just being a mom of a baby let alone having to deal with learning to live with hypothyroidism.
My poor kids get to have the "genetic" everything from my husband and me. sign, oh, well. I'm living with my parents genes and have made it so far.
The thyroid controls the metabolism of every cell in the body, digestion, even bone growth. Please have your daughter tested as soon as possible. Don't be worried that you passed it on, just what to do about it if you did. IF she needs levothyroxine (hormone replacement) then she NEEDS it. If it's something else then the doctor(s) will find it. IF she has hypothyroidism, she will need tested every 6 months to a year, but that is nothing to fear. I'd be more afraid of what would happens when they don't catch problems early on.
I pray she doesn't have hypothyroidism and that she feels better soon and that the first doctor she sees figures out what's making her feel bad.
Her blood test was done last Monday and we are waiting for the results. She seems to be worse after bleeding so I'm hoping that it is something easy to fix like low iron.
My second son of the four boys I have gets his Free Ts and TSH check periodically. He's getting labs done tomorrow related to his Type 1 Diabetes and will also get the Hashi's antibodies of the TPOab and TgAb done.
Even my oldest has his thyroid check periodically along with having some kind of arthritis inflammatory issues (he sees a Rheumy soon) to determine which kind. This Rheumy was almost ready to 'brush' him off but luckily I was there for his first appointment and she saw me in a wheel chair and how bad I looked with bent joints and such from the RA I have.
I wish you success and definitely think about getting labs done for your youngest to see how her thyroid is doing.
Now I'm going to need to think about my last two sons soon and have their thyroids checked out.
{{{hugs}}}
Thank you all for your support.
Definately next year when we have to have insurance I am going to have them all check for the antibodies more frequently to try to catch it quickly.
