In the armpits? In my case, it's painful only when I press. Some acupoint telling you not all is right with the body, I suppose.

Hypothyroidism can cause all over body pain - including the under-arms.

Hashimoto's thyroid disease can, in some cases, cause the lymph nodes to swell (and are painful).

One way you can tell is - if you feel pellet like or small ball like things under your arm - it's probably related to Hashi's. If not, it's probably nerve pain from thyroid disease.

Palpitations/adrenaline rushes have plagued me off and on since mid 2012. Are you currently on thyroid medication? Please provide more details regarding your situationa and perhaps I can offer you insight based on my personal experience.

I'm at the stage where I'm trying to convince a doctor that a free T4 of .9 isn't good, lol. No medications yet. I have an app with my PCP this afternoon. Its his last chance or he's fired. I'm a grown man, never been an "emotional" kind of guy, but I'm at the point of breaking down into tears because I feel so bad. I'm sure today he'll do more blood work, and I'm going to stress I want the free T3 as well as the free T4 and I don't really give a damn what my TSH is or what they think "normal" is. It isn't normal to feel like I'm dying. I don't know how much more I can take. Helerown, I actually have almost all of the symptoms you listed under another post.

Could it be swollen lymphnodes? I know underarms is one place where we have a lot of those glands. I have been getting swollen lymphnodes in my neck (like just under my chin/ears) a lot lately when I've been feeling nasty with other symptoms, and I think it's basically an immune response telling you not all is well. I've never noticed them in my underarms, though, I just know that's another place they are located.

You are suffering from thyroid disease and are certainly not alone. Depending on how long this has gone on without being treated, your adrenal glands are most likely fatigued. I suffered from pretty severe adrenal fatigue because I went undiagnosed for many months after the birth of my daughter and was so bad that I had a TSH of 100 and FT4 well under the range. I couldn't even tolerate a half the of lowest dose of synthroid. They refused to check my FT3 at that time, stating it was useless. I went through hell and back believe me and finally found a good doctor after going through about 5 bad ones in a two month time frame. Whenever my adrenals are off (which is often) I get insane palpitations and adrenalin rushes. I've posted a link below that may be helpful to you.

Don't let ONE doctor keep you sick. If he's not willing to "give thyroid meds a try" make an appt with someone else ASAP.

Well, the appointment didn't quite go as planned. He gave me a long lecture about how my TSH levels were perfect, therefore, a free T4 level of .9 is "perfect for me" even though it is barely in the normal range. He said if my TSH was elevated, and my free T4 was at .9, then we'd have a problem. He doesn't want to "tinker" with my thyroid and cause a "real problem" and cause me to have to take medicine for the rest of my life. I gave him my long list of symptoms.....again, and he still wants me to see a cardiologist. When I brought up again about my constant and sometimes overwhelming fatigue, he set me up for a sleep study because he thinks I have sleep apnea. I'm about at my wits end with all of this. Thanks for all of your replies.

BTW, he ALSO informed me that the only way I would have palpitations and adrenalin rushes was if I was Hyperthyroid. He didn't like it when I basically told him he was full of crap if he believed that.

Well He IS full of crap.

Make an appointment with another doc ASAP. When you go to this appointment please mention that you wife is hypothyroid - do you have any blood-relatives that have thyroid issues?

I heard that line until I landed in the hospital! You can't wait that long if you can help it.

It's worth a try...

I told him my aunt was hypothyroid and she told me that at .9 free T4 she couldn't function, and that I also talked to a couple of nurse friends. He said he's sorry his medical peers that he never saw in med school were steering me wrong, (obviously being a sarcastic ASS).

I had a doc tell me the same things, including a referral for a sleep study. I immediately cancelled my next appointment and threw his referral I'm the garbage. Don't settle for this crap. Keep searching for a dr who knows how to treat you properly. I went through 3 drs before I found my 4th awesome dr. I found him on the Thyroid Change website. It's been a few months and I still don't feel good, but I know that this dr is committed to getting me better. You DESERVE to be better!!

I went through the same thing...trust me. I was hospitalized...had a ct scan of my chest, and echo, a stress test, etc. There was nothing wrong with my heart!!! When I was discharged from the hospital with a TSH of 64 I was told my thyroid was returning to normal and I didn't need medication and to follow up in a few months. I felt HELPLESS. I literally couldn't take anymore and wanted to die. I sought care with a naturopath who treats based on symptoms (even though my labs sucked too). I literally could not convince any conventional doctor that I was suffering from adrenal fatigue and that is why I couldn't tolerate the thyroid meds. The ND knew right away that what was going on even before getting the labs results from the extensive blood work he had me do. It's worth checking into treating with an ND rather than a conventional doctor. I'm not sure if any of the below doctors are near you, but the list is worth looking at...this site is where i found my ND.
