Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
Do you know what your FT-3 looks like?
What medication are you on?
What is your dose?
You can try cutting back on your own if you're feeling so badly -- I do to see what works for me then I go to my doctor to tell her what I need.
Do not drink coffee! If you do slow it down.
Watch your blood sugar. Perhaps a hypoglycemic diet will help.
Do NOT eat anything with Lactic Acid in it. A lot of dairy has it. Read food labels. Lactic Acid has been used scientifically to induce panic attacks.
Stay hydrated. You'd be amazed at how most of us are dehydrated, and that puts a lot of stress on the body and can cause adrenaline to start flowing.
Try and manage stress.
Know it's not all in your headthough the mind is an important tool that is lethal if used against itself: worrying, anger, etc.
There is so much more than I won't get into but . . .
research research research.
All healing thoughts from me to you. Anxiety/panic is truly frightening.
I'd hate to see you change your dose without looking at your labs. You'd be at risk of heading in the wrong direction.
TSH does not tell all. It is a pituitary hormone. Thyroid status is always determined by looking at the actual thyroid hormone levels - FreeT4 and FreeT3.
Once you see what's going on with your FT4 and FT3 levels, you'll have a better idea of just what you need.
If you'd like some help interpreting your labs, please post the results here with reference ranges.
Waking multiple times during the night and possibly having difficulty falling back asleep is a classic hypo symptom called "interrupted sleep".
I can't tell you how many people have crossed my path on thyroid forums these past 6+ years and thought they were hyper when they were hypo.
Your TSH is too high to indicate hyperthyroidism. It would have to be below-range to be hyper.....believe me, I speak from experience (and extensive research).
Maybe you can get your GP to run the right tests.....or use one of the many online labs. Here's one that will do the FT4, FT3 and TSH for around $85:

I couldn't find the post but, I did find one from a couple of months ago wherein you mentioned that the endo said your FT4/FT3 was well within normal limits. That just means they are in-range.
If the endo ran this crucial tests back then, it's just as important to run them now.....or find another doctor who will.
You have been suffering too long and the only way that will change will be to get the right tests done....some way, some how.
I know you are on a hefty dose of levo.....you could very well need a slightly lower dose of that along with some T3 in the form of Cytomel/liothyronine.
There's no way of knowing without those FT4/FT3 tests.
If you really want to feel better, you will find a way to get those tests run.
Also...today i developed BAD diarrhea iwas at work so i took immodium...tonight i have bad stomach pain and bathroom issues again...i am a complete mess all the way around at the moment...
Sorry to get so long winded... :( thank you all for listening...
Ps is there a blood test to check adrenal function???
I would definitely use the Healthcheckusa.com or Privatelabsmdlabs.com online to order my own Free T3, Free T4, and TSH since you have difficulties with this Endo and live in a small town.
I find that products such as Immodium A-D contains a lot of chemicals as well as GMO toxins that I will not touch or cannot have because of the effects on the autoimmune diseases I have.
Instead I find it easier to tolerate raw organic sauerkraut for any stomach problems that I've had or to help with sudden diarrhea and such.
Hope you feel better soon and yes, there are blood tests to check Adrenal function.
{{{hugs}}} :-)
