Hypoparathyroidism Support Group
Hypoparathyroidism is decreased function of the parathyroid glands, leading to decreased levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH). The consequence, hypocalcemia, is a serious medical condition. This presents with tremor, tetany and, eventually, convulsions. Severe hypocalcemia, a potentially life-threatening condition, is treated as soon as possible with intravenous calcium.
It helps absorb the calcium, might help.
I can understand the hospital visits, I dont have insurance.
It gets very costly.
Thanks for the tip, I will go get some today.
Seriously though, the liquid calcium drink has saved me from having to go to the hospital. It's bubblegum flavored, blech, but hey, it works great, absorbs fast, and pulls me out of my calcium lows FAST!
GL!

It tastes good, works well
Calcium 1000 mg, d3 1000 mg
Yes, the ER visits are crazy and killing my pockets along with $100 in medication each month and the doctor changes it each month as well.. I really dont know how to cope with all this. Im 27 yrs old, a wife, mothe rof 3 and almost done with my degree and finding it hard 2 concentrate and get my life back together.. UGH!!! i wish all you luck!
4-6 Citracal Max with 315 mg calcium each (calcium citrate is much easier to absorb than calcium carbonate)
1x5000 iu OTC Vitamin D3 (although I will be reducing to 2000 iu as soon as this bottle runs out since my vitamin D level is good now)
2 Reacted Magnesium with a total of 235 mg Magnesium
Calcium does not work without D. D does not work without Magnesium. I feel tons better with this regimen. My doc has been checking my PTH levels and they seem to be getting better.
Hugs.
I have a question for everyone. Has anyone heard about someone getting well from hypoparathyroidism?
I was initially on 9 tablets of calcium a day with 3 tablets of vitamin 11 months ago but I slowly was feeling better and my laboratory tests showed it, too.
Now, my last intake of calcium was a month ago.
Am I healed?
did all of you start your calcium after they addressed the parathyroid? and these typs of calcium work the best or are dr recommended?
