Hypochondria Support Group
Hypochondria refers to excessive worry about having a serious illness. Hypochondria is often characterized by fears that minor bodily symptoms may indicate a serious illness, constant self-examination and self-diagnosis, and a preoccupation with one's body. Many individuals with hypochondriasis express doubt and disbelief in the doctors' diagnosis.
I have been diagnosed with OCD and hypochondria along with depression and GAD. My condition is so awful that I am thinking 24/7 that I have an infectious disease (Hepatitis or HIV mainly) or cancer. I have been on numerous medications over the past 5 or 6 years but nothing ever provided me with total relief. I can imagine how frustrated you might be. I am writing this to let you know that you are not alone, I know that reassurance won't help though. The only thing that helped me somehow was when I acknowledged that it's all in my head. I think of all the times I went to the ER claiming that I have some disease and then turning out to be totally fine afterwards. I go back through these situations and tell myself: "Do you remember when you went to the ER and the doctors medically cleared you, it's all in your head. This too shall pass".
I also suggest that you see a psychotherapist (if you're not already seeing one). Talking to a professional combined with medication may help you.
Hang on my friend,
Cheers,
I'm also 24 and have had heart palpitations non stop for two weeks. I thought FOR SURE this was the real deal. They went away as soon as I was evaluated.
I'm positive that you are ok. It helps me to look back at all of the times I've freaked out and in the end nothing was wrong. Try to see the patterns of all of the times you've freaked out but ended up being fine. It will help you realize that it's just another one of those times!
