Hypochondria Support Group
Hypochondria refers to excessive worry about having a serious illness. Hypochondria is often characterized by fears that minor bodily symptoms may indicate a serious illness, constant self-examination and self-diagnosis, and a preoccupation with one's body. Many individuals with hypochondriasis express doubt and disbelief in the doctors' diagnosis.
Often when I am at the doctor I either have an increased heart rate because I am anxious, or I have the opposite effect where all of a sudden I am there wanting to show them my symptoms and they completly stop.
I have the same problem with my heart beating intensely at night too and I was convinced that it was missing beats. I have had every heart test out there, including the 24 hour halter moniter, and they tell me I am fine. I finally had to start putting a cd (just instrumental, no words) on to try and not focus on the heart beat. It definitely helps!
It took me years to accept that I was having anxiety and once I did it was a little easier to make it through it. Don't get me wrong, I still have my moments, but it has gotten better. If you can afford it or if you have good insureance, go ahead and get all the tests out there you can to make sure it is not something serious. Again, it hasn't completely stopped my hypochondria, but that's what I had to do and now I can rationalize with certain things when they happen.
Hang in there :)
