Hyperparathyroidism Support Group
Hyperparathyroidism is overactivity of the parathyroid glands resulting in excess production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Increased PTH consequently leads to increased serum calcium (hypercalcemia) due to 1) increased bone resorption, allowing flow of calcium from bone to blood, 2) reduces renal clearance of calcium, and 3) increases intestinal calcium absorption.

I thought it would be nice to have a thread where everyone listed their symptoms both typical and weird ones. Haven't seen any specific thread like that yet, although with my lack of mental accuity I may have overlooked it. I'll start:
Uncontrolable high blood pressure; buring pain in my spine; strange burning/tingling/ almost boiling blood phantom pains in my torso, especially the "girdle" areas (not that I wear a girdle); mental fog, feeling stupid, in a daze, kinda like coming out of a double feature (remember those?) matinee into the sunlight, kinda dopey; elevated morning glucose readings; PVCS; a general feeling of unwellness, discomfort that's hrad to describe; and finally, my weird muscle pain when I drink any alcohol, though I don't know if it's related to this.
That's about it.

You mentioned girdle area. My child had pain and uncomfortable feeling in this area, was checked for urine infection and stones. This was negative. Finally after much begging a testicle ultrasound was done. Found varicocele and hyrdrocele. Eventually quite a discrepancy in size of testicles was noted because of this condition. Still nothing being done although size discrepancy now is not as dramatic.
Not to stress you out, there is a disease called MEN1, Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia. Usually first presenting symptom is hyperparathyroidism. People with this disease also have uncontrolled blood pressure, insulinomas (causes variations in glucose levels), ner vous stomach feeling etc
However, hyperparathyroidism also effects not only bone but all organs. Frequent urination can indicate reduced kidney function or your body trying to rid itself of extra calcium. Drinking alot of water helps reduce your calcium levels and therefore lower blood pressure.
If you have the money/insurance I would suggest having a consult with Dr. Norman as he understands the rarer facets of this disease. You shouldn't be feeling this way. You need to get diagnosed and fixed.
Testicular issues? Why not. Let's add another layer of absurdity to this problem. :-) Right now as I type this I have muscle pain like someone is squeezing a corset around my middle, only it's a sore, not tight feeling. I agree I need to have this done, but after my insurance dropped I have been private pay. I think in WA State we have a law that if you have a pre-existing condition you can get a higher premium insurance and still get coverage. I guess I'll have to look. Oh, and the peeing.....I feel diabetic, but I'm not. Thirsty and peeing. Have to keep a container by the bed else I'd be in the bathroom 4 times a night! lol
