Primary hyperhidrosis is the condition characterized by abnormally increased perspiration, in excess of that required for regulation of body temperature. Some patients afflicted with the condition experience a distinct reduction in the quality of life. Sufferers feel at a loss of control because perspiration takes place independent of temperature and emotional state.

Compensatory sweating - dating

UGH. I underwent ETS in 2012 because I had bad cranial HH. Now, I regret getting ETS. Its so embarrassing and I am so insecure about it especially when it comes to dating and making new friends. I would really like to meet people who also understand this struggle and can relate to it. I live in Dallas, TX so if anyone lives around here by chance that would be awesome!

Hi. I know the feeling; had ETS between 1999-2001 and have regretted it ever since. Terrible mistake. :'(
As you say the compensatory sweating is embarrassing, and also very difficult to try and hide / disguise. It makes me sad to read that people to this day are still going through this procedure, but they are entitled to make their own decisions of course.
Only wish more information had been available at the time.
I hope you manage to build a happy life. I'm currently trying self-help books to try to improve how I feel and cope with the condition.

I have a question regarding the ETS surgery-do you remember having pain while recovering? How was your breathing afterwards? Did the nurse give you any pain meds during post-op?

I live in Dallas and had ETS Surgery in 1999. I was diagnosed with severe hyperhidrosis of hands, feet, underarms when I was a toddler. It was horrible growing up with it and had never heard of ETS until moved here. They could not do my feet, but did for hands underarms & it worked. I was in extreme pain between my shoulder blades, which they warned me about since that is area they sever the nerves. And I had hard time breathing for day or 2. Was on morphine for 2 days & home with pain meds. I was so excited to have dry hands and underarms I didn't care about pain. They told me compensatory sweating could happen, but was rare. Unfortunately a year after surgery, my stomach, back, groin & legs started sweating. It is awful & rules my life. Especially in Texas heat & humidity. I would never have done the surgery had I known how common compensatory sweating was. I have asked docs over the years if there was anything else besides surgery to help, and was told no. Two weeks ago I found a blog "My life as a Puddle" about people like me! So excited. I found out about a pill "propantheline " that numerous people were taking that stopped their sweating! Apparently been around & prescribed for years. So mad never heard of it. My GP just called me in some 3 days ago and after one day I can tell a big difference. I usually start sweating after a shower or minute I'm outside, but I went out last night and stayed dry! Today is first full day..take 3 a day and will let you know if works. Everyone on other blog said it was a life changer. Im 55 now and wish I would have heard of this years ago. But at least I have it now!! Kkteezy, I'd be happy to talk with you in Dallas!
