Shunt Pain

Hello,

I have not had a problem in over 20 years, however, for the past few weeks my shunt has been sore. Up until a few weeks a go I never really felt it. Now it is sore and it feels weird when I touch it, kind of bumpy. Has anyone else experienced this?

I made an appointment with my neurologist but it is not until mid-January. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do until then to not drive myself nuts? My imagination is going places I would rather it not. Shunt complications have always been the topic of my nightmares.

My shunt has always been bumpy but since my last revison in July last year it has become so sore that i now cant lie on my right side for any length of time.

i hadnt had anything to do with my shunt for 13years of my life i didnt even know what hydrocephalus was just that i had it until my shunt failed and had shunt revisions, but now my shunts sore day after day but i think maybe mines because its new in my body :/ i dont know. but honestly going through shunt revisions and surgery really isnt as bad as you think. i cried my heart out when i had to but then after the first time it just got easier and had my family to support and the doctors are really understanding. i dont understand why your appointments mid-january? when i have shunt problems i go straight to my consultant and have tests because your meant to get it checked out straight away if you think theres a problem.

I ended up going to the ER yesterday and got an x-ray and CT scan. It looks like there is something wrong with the verticies (i have no idea how yo spell it correctly). It is not emergent, but it looks like i am going to have surgery in the few months. According to the resident it is a simple surgery (if that exists). At least now I am know I am not going crazy and that it is not critical that needs to be taken care of the week before Christmas.

The problem now is all I can think of is the hell I went through the last time when I had 7 surgeries in 5 months. Does anyone have any positive stories where problems are taken care of with one surgery, with very little hair shaved off, with a quick recovery.
