I was diagnosed with HPV two years ago. (Not the genital warts) At my last check up with a new doctor, they didn't say anything about it. I've heart a lot about the Gardasil vaccine and I was just wondering if I might want to get it as well or if it wouldn't do me any good? I just read an article about it being linked to the rise of throat cancer through oral sex. I don't know if I want another scare like this, but since I'm already exposed, I don't think this vaccine will do me any good. What are your opinions?

They say if u have one it will protect u from the other. But after doing research about it I think having hpv is better than what most people have gone through with getting the vaccine.

Now that you have genital warts the vaccine will not cure it or help prevent it from occurring again BUT it will protect you from other types of HPV that cause cervical cancer. When I found out that I had genital warts I went and got the vaccine cause it just made me realize how common HPV is and I don't want to get cancer. It helps to give you some peace of mind.

I have the high risk type, not genital warts. I was just wondering about the genital warts and now they're talking mouth cancer. I have enough to worry with the type I have..

It protects against four strains. If you don't have any of those four strains, it can help protect you.

I thought about the vaccine, but I read it only protectc you for 4 years...

Their study only lasted for 5 years on humans. So they don't know for certain what happens after 5 years. Whether the vaccine wears off or if the vaccine causes a problem. My best advice is wait awhile and see what happens. So far it looks ok.
