HPV Support Group
Human papillomavirus is a diverse group of DNA-based viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes of humans. More than 100 different human papillomavirus (HPV) types have been characterized. Some HPV types cause benign skin warts, or papillomas, for which the virus family is named. HPVs associated with the development of such "common warts" are transmitted...
It sounds like your situation is a roller coaster right now, with good reason.
My first question would be, did she tell you as soon as she found out, or did she wait to bring it up? I only ask in case the distance is from some sort of resentment for putting you at danger, or just fear of getting HPV. In the end it wouldn't really matter, but I think dating someone with HPV is a two way street. Loving someone, and I mean really loving them, is accepting their downfalls and everything, but at the same time if you do not have it, she should be courteous enough to protect you because she loves you, from getting it. I recently found out I had HPV that causes GW and just telling my significant other was a challenge, I don't think I've ever been more embarrassed. But, now that it's out in the open you can focus on living with the virus whether one or both of you have it.
Does she have the strain that causes GW or did she just have an abnormal pap smear? If you both have it, and you can't see yourself with anyone else, I don't see what breaking up would solve. You guys can lean on each other during bad days and be that support that is absolutely crucial for dealing with this thing. If you DO NOT have it, I would definitely have the conversation with her about how you feel and come to a compromise to keep you safe. She should be wiling to do that if she loves you, no question.
Hope this helps.
