I just recently had a guy go down on me. Can HPV be transmitted through oral sex? I'm freaking out I feel so horrible my anxiety is high I want to shut down I feel so dumb for letting it go that far.
So, he has ZERO reason to be upset with you when he himself did the exact same thing as you did, he touched you without informing you that he had a history of HPV. He had the exact same responsibility to tell you that he had HPV as you had to tell him.
Apparently, he doesnt know the facts. The facts are .... HPV is forever and anyone can change from inactive to active WITHOUT ANY SYMPTOMS WHATSOEVER. There is no way to determine the precise moment in time that your body goes from inactive to active so the only responsible course of actions is to forewarn EVERYONE you have any intimate contact with - oral sex, anal sex, vaginal sex - even just skin to skin contact of the genital area because HPV lives on the skin cells. It is NOT just the penis and the vagina so condoms are NOT 100% protection- it is the entire genital area- scrotum, pelvis, labia, area near the buttocks - the entire genital area. The HPV vaccine only is for 2, 4, or 9 of the high risk strains of HPV depending on which vaccine you had and offers zero protection against the HPV strains that cause genital warts.
Also - there are over a 100 different strains of HPV! You could have strain 6 and he could have strain 18. There is no way to know which strains you have so even having intimate contact with someone already exposed to HPV doesnt necessarily mean you're safe because you can infect him and he can infect you with a different strain. The HPV test I had groups all 13 high risk strains into one test so I could have a single strain or multiple strains - I cant pinpoint which specific strain or strains I have. I was also exposed to the the Low risk HPV strains that cause genital warts but I dont know which specific genital wart strain. I could have strains 6 and the person I am with can have strain 11 and we could infect each other with different strains. Do you see why HPV is so prevalent??? I have read 79 million Americans have HPV.
As for everything being "fine" between you, I personally find it troubling that he KNEW he had a history of HPV and yet he did not tell you before he had oral sex with you. Did he just not know the facts that HPV is forever and could be transmitted via oral sex? Did he just not know that HPV is forever and he should consider himself contagious from this point forward and he has a responsibility to tell every person he is intimate with BEFORE he touches them? Does he realize there are over 100 strains and he can be infected with another strain that he doesnt currently have? Does he realize it is not just a "woman problem" that some types of HPV can cause genital warts in men?Does he know that certain strains of HPV can cause cancers of the penis, anus, or oropharynx (back of the throat, including base of the tongue and tonsils)? Is he in denial or just he just not know the facts??
