HPV Support Group
Human papillomavirus is a diverse group of DNA-based viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes of humans. More than 100 different human papillomavirus (HPV) types have been characterized. Some HPV types cause benign skin warts, or papillomas, for which the virus family is named. HPVs associated with the development of such "common warts" are transmitted...
I've had psoriasis on my scalp since I was 14. I get a mild case around my rectum from time to time and I had it really bad on my hands for a span of 2 yrs or so. It's been quite some time though since it's been bad. I just have some mild patches on my scalp currently.
I also burn easily and have had enough blistering burns that I am at risk for skin cancer. I commonly get rashes due to detergents, etc. and I suffer from hives a lot.
I am really healthy otherwise. I almost never get sick. This was the 1st time I've been to the doctor in years. It's always something dealing with my skin when I do have to go.
I haven't grown any in my mouth as far as my doctors say and I have given oral sex without condoms. Good mouth hygiene? I think to get oral warts in your mouth you must have a rather bad immune system or at least oral hygiene as they are indeed really rare. If I didn't get them I don't think you will. :)
I wouldn't worry about your son getting it. HPV is quite a fragile virus and dies fast when it comes in contact with air. And as you were bathing I'm sure the chemicals in the soap/water would kill it.
I was just as paranoid as you were when I first found it... I refused to even touch anyone or kiss anyone let alone not wash the shower/bath with dettol after use. :s I calmed down after a while thankfully. :P
You may want to use as much precaution as humanly possible when having any kind of sex, including oral sex. Since you have a weakened immune system, you may easily contract HPV orally which would put you at risk for any kind of oral lesions which may lead to cancer.
In addition, boost your immunity by taking supportive vitamins, eating healthy, reducing stress (psoriasis usually flares during stressful periods as well as wart outbreaks) and by not smoking.
Wachit so any warts that get into your mouth could lead to cancer or are there only specific straings that can lead to cancer?
Unfortunately, there is more we don't know about HPV than we do know. If anyone is afraid of passing it on then they should take precautions, but not be paranoid about it.
HPV is passed through skin to skin contact and not through toilet seats or by kissing. However, the more common forms of HPV (those strains that cause common warts that might appear on hands and feet) are actually more contagious so it's important to use the same philosophy as you would to avoid any other virus. Wash your hands frequently or use an anti-bacterial gel.
I just wanted to drop a line to say thanks to you all. The support helps a lot.
My boyfriend and I talked about it and I told him that I'm not comfortable with having oral sex. I just don't want to risk it. It would be horrible having them in my mouth and everyone would know then. He's cool about it. It sucks, but I'm sure we can learn to be more creative when it comes to sex...lol
I have never smoked, I have started taking a lot of vitamins, and I also drink two tablespoons of ACV in water each morning. I was actually taking the ACV before I found the HPV. I had read that it can help with psoriasis. It does help. my scalp has improved a lot since taking it. I have also used ACV to burn off common warts and it worked better than anything else.
The aldara is working really well without any of the horrible side effects. Half of the warts are gone already and the others are almost gone.
I think the biggest help has been my faith in God and the fact that he has already healed me.
Anywho, thanks so much to all of you :)
