As you said, it does depend on your own body, immune system, if there are other STIs present with HPV it is difficult to rid. It also depends on the kind you have and what treatments are taken and how quickly they are met. Also, smoking, having unprotected sex, not knowing one's sexual history etc...all contribute to the virus not leaving.
