I have been homeschooled since 1st grade and I stay very social. You child will still have the friends he has made at school and maybe the kids in your neighborhood. There are also sports they can get in too and Co-ops that you can get involved in as well. It doesn't take near as long to get your work done in homeschool as it does in public, so your child will have tons of free time to be with friends when school lets out. You can still have kids that go to public school come over and play. If your son wants he can get into Boyscouts. If you go to church he can make friends in sunday school. I would strongly recommend the Co-op, for your son to be around other homeschoolersand take fun little extra classes like art, music, etc... with kids his age. So yes your son can live a very social life being homeschooled. If you have any questions, I would love to help. :)

Homeschooling can be beneficial or detrimental to an individual. It all depends on how your kid sees it. Have you exhausted all other options and searching for a different school? Have you considered a private school or boarding schools (http://www.militaryschools411.com/)? They have different ways in going about in these types of school than in a public one. Try considering it first then consider home schooling if it still not good enough for you.

I am just starting out homeschooling my son. I know it is a little different everywhere.

One of the things suggested to me for summer activites might actually work for socialization during the school year. I haven't tried it yet, but one of my son's providers recommended kids activity "classes" through our local "Parks and Recreation Department". My son has a disability and in my area they can assign him an inclusion assistant for the parks activities if I give them enough notice.

Anyway, I haven't tried it yet and I can't know if it would work for you, but it's a possibility.

Often, people tend to associate public school with having a "health social life", however in my own past experience I was anything but a social butterfly.

Honestly I have chosen to become a home educator to give my son better moral upbringing, than he could achieve being among students are are likely to pressure him into drugs, or other behavior that might put him on the wrong path down the line.

There are plenty of opportunities for children to be social outside of the public school system. There are often other homeschooling parents, or groups who get together on a regular basis.

Also, many cities have programs for children, such as science camps, etc. In my city we have so many programs for science, history, chemistry, etc.

The biggest benefit to homeschooling is you can spend more time with your son ensuring they comprehend each subject, rather than seeing them left behind by the public school system. My son is six, but we are a few months into the second grade.
