It's important to keep in mind that EVERYONE reacts differently. That said, by the 3rd or 4th treatment, I started to lose my hair. One day on the couch, I ran my fingers through my hair and came out with a handful. After that, it was all downhill. I have very thick hair, so I was left with some (very little, but some). My mom had breast cancer a year later, was treated w/ Adriomycin and some other things, and lost her hair COMPLETELY and much sooner than I did.

If you aren't noticing any in the shower or on pillows, you're in very good shape, and you may be lucky and won't lose a lot, if any. Keep in mind that the effects of chemo are cumulative so even though you're OK now, towards the end, it may start to kick in....

I starting cycle 3a (5th treatment) and I have noticed some hair in my shower and when I comb / brush it. It is nice to hear a reply from another person dx with Hodgkins. Thanks.

I just completed treatment 2B (with an obligatory Shakespeare joke) and I had a few days where I was getting what felt like a lot hair falling but it's slowed now to just a thinning of my hair.

There was a point where I got a few gobs of hair during a showe, got freaked out and preemptively shaved my head. It's growing in thinner, but still there. It's a little patchy and i'll probably keep it pretty buzz-cut for the rest of treatment or until it's all fallen out. It's still coming out faster than before - lots of little tiny hairs on my pillow but it's less traumatic for me to see eyelash length hairs instead of normal hair.

I also have to say I LOVE not having to shampoo/condition or dry/blow dry my hair. It's the small things. And everybody says I have a good shaped head and is very supportive so that helps too. Best wishes on your treatment! :)

My oncologist told me that about 70% of people lose their hair with ABVD. With this info, I decided to dye my hair bright purple because, if I was going to lose it, why not have some fun with it. It has been a bit of a rallying point for friends and supporters. I am doing well with treatment and haven't felt sick so I don't need any physical help from people but they can wear purple to show support. My mom and sisters, plus another 30 people in my city and a few in other states, have gotten purple streaks to show support also.

I've had 4 treatments of ABVD so far and will be heading into #5 at the end of the week. I still have my hair and it is just shedding more, though I must say, purple hair stands out a bit more than my regular light brown. I personally feel like the vitamins I take are helping my hair stay in. Quite awhile before I was diagnosed with HL, I started taking Prenatal vitamins because my family has a history of thinning hair and weak nails. I still take the Prenatal vitamins and have started taking a Biotin supplement as well.

I plan on asking my doctor at my next treatment if there is a "point of no return" in regards to hair loss. Maybe once you make it past a certain point or number of treatments, if you have hair you'll keep it.

I started losing my hair more quickly after the 6th treatment which is when I went and shaved it off...I couldn't handle seeing it fall out

Hi my hair started to fall out after my 4th treatment and is still there after my 7th teatment although it has thinned alot and has receded at the front. My hair is very thick.and maybe thats why it has taken so long to completely fall out. I shaved my hair off once it got to a state i wasnt happy or confident to show it anymore andwas wearing my wig regular as i was getting very hot. I would advise you though to do alot of thinking before shaving your hair off as i regretted it instantly and you cud.be one of the.lucky ones who doesnt loose their hair.good luck xx

Hi there! I (like a lot of people) didn't want to deal with seeing my hair fall out, so before I began treatment I shaved it completely. I had LOOONG, thick, curly hair too, so that was a big step. Unfortunately, NONE of my hair fell out. So before you take a big step, I would wait until you see some evidence that it actually is going to fall out. Hope this helps and good luck!

I'm starting my 3rd cycle (5th treatment) Friday. My pillow looks like a chia-pet, but my hair is still there. I'm not looking forward to seeing it go.

My hair follicles have been hurting since the 3rd treatment.

I only have one treatment down and have noticed my hair thinning and coming out in small chunks already.

I started treatment in the beginning of March. I started losing my hair by the handful shortly after my second treatment and I buzzed my hair the day before my third treatment. However, I was also under a lot of stress as I spent that 2 week period between treatments dealing with the illness and loss of my cat I had for 18 years and I tend to shed more hair anyways when stressed.

This subject has been on my mind since I got my first diagnoses. Still in the works to find out just what type of Lymphoma I have, yesterday I had the bone marrow test and a lymphnode removed for further testing.
When I get to the point of having to have chemo I have decided I will have found a place I can go have my head shaved and donate my hair to have a wig made for a child going through this nightmare. Since my teens I have always had blonde hair down past my shoulders so this will be a huge impact on me. After laying there yesterday and having the doctor diggin into my hip then shortly afterwards having another cutting into me under my jaw.. It hit me as to how hard it is for me to fill my boys in on what is going on. How hard it must be for a parent to go through watching their child go through this.
If I can help make a parent smile as they watch their child smile then taking the chance and having my hair shaved is more then worth it.

My hair was starting to thin before they told me what was wrong with me, not sure what caused it, if it was the disease itself or not, but after the 2nd treatment that was all it took, my hair was coming out in handfulls, ii had to shave it, ii still have prickles tho and they seem to be growing so im not sure what the deal is. Guess everybody is different.

This is totally different for each person. It's all physiology. I had long, long blonde hair. It came out in handfuls immediately and was totally gone before the second treatment.

I expect the hair staying in tact would help mentally! It sounds like your hair may stay in tact at this point. I hope this is the case for you and you feel well soon!

My hair started to thin out pretty heavily around 2 months into treatment. The first time I actually noticed it was after a shower, a huge amount of hair was left in the drain. I ended up cutting it shoulder length at that point, but within a month or so decided to shave it all because it was so thin and hair was going everywhere. I never experienced clumps of hair, it was always just thinning, a lot. Some people I know never lost their hair.

Although it is a hard experience to go through it was very nice not to have to wash, condition, blow dry and do your hair every day. I embraced scarves, bananas, hats and for a short time a wig.
