We'll be interested in the results. Zetia did not work for me. But I hope it will for you.

Pixie, Glad to hear zetia didn't raise your liver enzymes.

When your doctor prescribed zetia to you, were you told that zetia has never been shown to prevent heart disease or heart attacks, even in drug company sponsored studies?

Zetia will lower cholesterol. There is no doubt about that. But as far as preventing heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, or adding to a single day to your life. Nada.

I would encourage you to research it online.

You may also want to look at the ENHANCE trial where the active ingredients to zetia (ezetimibe) were added to a statin. Although adding zetia to a statin lowered LDL cholesterol more than just a statin alone. There was no regression of artery plaque in the zetia group. Instead the reverse happened and plaque grew faster in the zetia group. The drug company that funded the ENHANCE trial hid the results for 2 years. Finally it was revealed with great embarrassment.

The failed ENHANCE trial made headlines and shook the cardiology world. Most of the public didn't even take notice, and the drug company continued to sell the drug.

Just a heads up if you want to talk with your doctor about it.

Hey Pixie.....I was on Zetia years back and I was taken off of it because it didn't really help bring down my triglycerides and at that time an article came out that it can cause strokes etc...not very clear at the etc...I should look it up...but the dr's didn't want to risk the side effects of that medication with me so hence I have not been on it for years. I wish you luck on it and any strange feelings or reactions make sure you always inform your dr. Hugs hon!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will find out more in April when I have blood tests. Dang, that stuff is expensive! Our health savings account (never much) is almost gone and then it'll start biting our flex account. I almost hope it doesn't work and maybe try Welchol instead. I was on Colestid, which is in the same class and had digestive issues. The Dr. said Welchol is less likely to cause those issues, but was expensive. Heck, I researched it and it is higher than Colestid, yes, but cheap compared to Zetia. I also wonder if getting my thyroid med changed from levothyroxine to armour might help...it does some people. We are all so different though. I feel like a car and the drs. are replacing various parts because they don't know which is malfunctioning. It would be nice if blood tests could talk and say "Yes, your cholesterol is high and this is why and this is what you need to do". I do have Metabolic issues (PCOS, type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism) but all other levels seem to be in normal range and dr. is pleased with everything else.

One good thing I can say is that I don't seem to have any side effects from the drug other than my wallet taking a beating.
