For the past decade the medical world has drilled into our heads how important it is to reach target goals of lowering "bad" cholesterol and raising "good" cholesterol.
Is everyone here aware this has been abandoned?
Yes ABANDONED by the new cholesterol guidelines.
Before, they said we had to get LDL cholesterol below 100. Now they say we won't worry about that unless your LDL is 190 or above. Oh really! So are they admitting what they have been telling us for the last 2 decades is wrong?
This 180 degree change might make you think fewer people need to take statins, but there is a snake in the woodpile. Don't get bit.
Instead of using target goals for cholesterol, they came up with a silly formula that actually puts more people on statins than ever before, and since Statins lower LDL (thats what they do) The new guidelines contradicts itself .
Its all about sales and increasing profits. That's all this ever was about. Statins were created to meet consumer demand to lower cholesterol. It doesn't have anything to do with heart disease. Its only through consumer perception lowering cholesterol with a pill improves heart health. Its ALL in the mind.
That's my take on it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

a pill when they turned 50. Their extremes cost lives, for sure, and
the fact that doctors get kickbacks - even small ones, for pushing
certain drugs is just totally crazy.
