Its important to understand the differences between diet/ exercise and statin drugs. They work very differently. In fact, they are two completely different animals.
Diet and exercise work to reduce blood lipds thru increased metabolism, and reduced calorie load. Metabolic rate is the rate your body consumes its fuel. Better yet, think of metabolism as your body's internal furnace. The brighter your internal furnace burns, the more effective it is at processing its fuel. ( fats, protien, and carbohydrates) and burns off blood lipds as they become processed for fuel. ENHANCING your body's furnace with a metabolic lncrease.
Statins work just the opposite. They offer no metabolic gains. Instead they RESTRICT the mevalonate metabolic pathway which produces cholesterol and CoQ10, and other valuable products.
Both methods change the ink on your lab report. But only the first method offers physiologic advantages, and the second method bears substantial risks.
In sales, consumer perception is everything. As long as the statin lowers the cholesterol, the consumer has the perception that he is better off, and walks away happy. But is the consumer really healthier?.... Its all perception.

I agree with you and am personally will fine tune my diet and will work with exercise as much as I can tolerate. After being on 5 different drugs (3 statins and 2 non-statins) and dealing with pain, muscle cramping, numbness and tingling, I have decided to stop all cholesterol medication. I can't live another year like this past one.

Oddly enough, diet is the most powerful component of the trio of drugs, diet and exercise. When implemented carefully, diet can be more powerful than the cholesterol drugs. If you were able to go 6 months on a vegetarian diet, cut your calories to 70% of what you currently eat, do moderate exercise most days of the week and slowly tail off of the cholesterol and blood pressure medications you're taking, I think you would be amazed at the difference. The trick is to do it slowly by changing your calories by 50 or 100 calories per month and walk yourself down to desired level. Many people have done this at http://www.CRSociety.org. I've done it this year and I've reduced my triglycerides by 50% in 3 1/2 months with additional reductions in LDL, risk ratio and Total Cholesterol of about 25%. HDL up 25%. Happy new year.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
