It said that - Even people without high cholesterol can take Crestor, with few or no side effects, and improve their chances of avoiding heart attack, stroke, DVT, hardening of the arteries, etc.
I guess unless you see the actual history of the person who died - what their genetic tendencies were, why the drug was so hard on them, etc., you can't really know why the drug reacted with her in that way.
I've been on a 20 mg dose of Crestor for nearly 2 years now, with nothing but tinnitus as a side effect.
Crestor, along with other statin drugs have been dealt a hard blow in recent trials which demonstated the drugs did nothing to save lives. The media began picking up on these trials, and public opinion on the drugs started deteriorating.
The report you saw on the news was an attempt to counter and retain market share by reporting a trial that demonstrated amazing results of crestor's ability to save lives. Its important to follow the money trail in a study, and in this case the money trail goes right back to the people selling the drug.
Its good that you have not suffered any side effects from statins. Count yourself very lucky. Some people fall sick the first week. Some people can take the drug for 20 years with no side effects. Then suddenly one day they can't walk anymore. The risk will always be present.
Remember, half of all heart attacks happen with low to normal cholesterol levels. If a person has high cholesterol and then lowers it to low or normal levels, we shift from one 50% group that has heart attacks, to the other 50% group that has just as many heart attacks. Where is the benefit in that?

I am sorry to hear about your experience on crestor, bt unfortunately its an all to common story.
Benefits of the drug? What benefits? People don't live one day longer taking a statin. In fact, after 20 years on the market, statins have done nothing to further the decline rate in deaths from coronary artery disease. Most people don't know that. But its true.
Let me say that one more time. IN 20 YEARS STATINS HAVE DONE NOTHING TO FURTHER THE DECLINE RATE IN DEATHS FROM CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE. The decline rate remained the same pre and post statins.
