personally, i\'ve had nothing but good experiences on lipitor...while it\'s certainly expensive, it\'s had a dramatic effect at lowering my cholesterol. my friends joke about lipitor being \'put in the water\' in the future to keep us all alive for much longer.
however, a relative of mine stopped taking lipitor because he claimed (unknown) side effects. anyone else actually had any issues?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Niaspan causes less flushing and unlike slo-niacin has been studied and proven to lower LDL cholesterol..

Zocor caused my hair to fall out in clumps. The doctors told me, it was worth the benefits of the drug. I don\'t think so.
I tried Zetia, but I have Diverticulitis, so they never should have put me on that one.
I gave up, and I\'m just waiting as my Cholesterol of 398 clogs my arteries. (I am 5\'6\" and 115 lbs.)
The liver, there fore is unnaturally taxed by these drugs, and should be checked each time your cholesterol levels are checked. Once you have been on the medication for a while, the liver panel can be done less frequently. However, if there is a problem, it is severe: it is a drug-induced hepatitis, and it is irreversible. You should be taken off the drug at once, and permanently.
The other side effect of these drugs involves the kidneys. If you are experiencing muscle aches, contact your doctor immediately, and have a blood test for your CPK level. These are proteins that are released from your muscles naturally every day. However, these drugs can cause an excess of CPKs to be released into your bloodstream. Muscle pain and weakness are the noticeable symptoms.
As the CPK level rises, the kidneys are unable to \"clean\" these proteins from the bloodstream, and a condition called rhabdomyolysis results. If left unchecked, the kidneys will shut down. I was hospitalized for two weeks with rhabdo, and it is no picnic. So, take the drugs, they work well, but take the precautions seriously.
Sorry to hear that the lipitor didn\'t work for you. I have been on every cholesterol lowering drug since 1975, (my father had a fatal heart attack, my mom had my bloodwork done, and my cholesterol was in the 500\'s. I was nine at the time). I am now 41, and have been on everything.
Just out of curiosity, when you were having the muscle pains, did they ever check your CPK level?
