Read this. I can't count how many people I have talked to who have told me they lost weight and either it made no difference in their HS or their HS actually got worse.
When I saw HS listed as one of the things that weight loss can make HS go away or improve it. I can see weight loss helping a bit as you no longer have the extra weight to rub up against one another.
This was just another thing to add to my already crappy past couple of days.
I'd like to know what you all think about it. Maybe I'm just "getting my feathers ruffled" unnecessarily due to my past few bad days. If so I'm sorry, the whole HS thing in her post just hit me in my backside all kinda wrong.

This one hit a nerve with me as well. I was told yesterday that I need to lose 50 lbs. becuase of my HS. Now I will be the first to agree that I need to lose weight but this started back when I was super skinny! I feel like if anything this has caused me to gain weight because the sores become so painful it forces me to be more "lazy" it hurts way too much to try and workout or really do any type of physical activity so I find myself laying on the couch with warm compresses half of my life instead of being up and active like I want to be. Ugghhhh it such a frustrating cycle, isn't it?

I just lost over 60 lbs and my condition has gotten worse. It has gotten so bad I'm having surgery tomorrow (2/22).

bdspring I agree. I find it difficult to even get in and out of the car let alone exercise! I use my upper body playing the wii, but that does not exercise my lower body. I am desperately trying to lower my sugar, exercise is supposed to be a part of that. I hope diet and medicine will help me alone.

Before I got HS, I used to love sports. Now I don't even bother because the sweating makes things so much worse. I get more breakouts and it becomes hard to just raise my hand in class. I don't think weight is truely a huge factor in the condition.

Good work out in..it's really frustrating ESP because my weight could cause other medical problems for me..sometimes I feel like I just can't win.i was losing weight with just dieting on its own but it was so expensive keeping up with the right foods that I couldn't afford it along with my medical bills :(

Lucky I feel ya there! All you hear all around is, eat healthier or eat this or that, but when you are stuck on a budget that leaves no wiggle room, you have to eat what you can afford. If that means peanut butter sandwiches for lunch, then it's peanut butter sandwiches. And where I am at the Farmer's Market is so far away that with the way gas is, it costs more to feed my family by buying from there. And the local "fresh food markets" are so expensive it is unbelievable. So I'm definitely stuck in the "fresh costs more" pitfall, at least in my area, and then compound it with my medical expenses and it's just not workable.
And of course the exercising. I used to be all over the place before HS locked it's black claws into me. But I try to keep doing something, like walking the dog when it's not too hot outside. I, too, live in fear of overdoing things and paying for it with a flare up. And there are just times where I'm too messed up to even think about exercise. And I miss doing stuff. I think really the only complication to my HS from my weight is the fact that there is all this extra "flesh" to rub and get sweaty, and when I get an alien, the fact that it "crowds" it.
I just hope and pray that one day there will be a cure for HS so that we no longer have to suffer.

I really enjoy eating healthy food and honestly could live off veggies and chicken (its about the only meat I can eat that doesn't bother my skin) but because of my recent separation I am staying with a friend.Totally broke and no control over the food we have in the house.So right now I am kind of worried because there are things I eat that totally tear my tummy up or break me out..but its so hard to talk to someone about it esp when they are helping you out.I'm just working hard to getting back on my feet so I can start eating right for me again.I want to push through the workouts too because I am scared of the heart conditions that run in my family.I gotta get over this fear of my breakouts.Its just sometimes I get a bump so big on my inner thigh that I can barely walk.I do wonder if putting deodorant there before I work out would help since my skin sometimes rubs.I dunno. :-/ I know HS is mostly about whats happening on the inside and keeping the outside clean so I am not sure what to do except do my best to be as healthy as I can and also keep my HS under control.Its so hard sometimes knowing what to do.

Shannon, you are definitely NOT being oversensitive! Size bias is rampant among doctors. They see someone with a large body and assume that fat is the cause of all their health problems and proscribe weight loss as a cure-all, and meanwhile the actual root issues go untreated!
