I was going to have surgery on my armpit and decided to have my dermatologist use laser to remove a large cyst/h.s. with hugh fistula.had it cut open numerous times with zero results...the I talk my dr.into using laser after reading from the site H.S.I
soo far it's been 3 weeks and healing well. I did not have to go to the hospital anmd reduce my cost my of of thousand of dollars..ask your dermatologist. ask him if his office is equipped for laser, or go to the site

I have had six ops in my groin, bum and can say that yes I did suffer nerve damage. However, it did get better - I think the longest I had it forwas three months. I have to admit on one of the ops where there was nerve damage it was quite painful! But the other times it was just numb.

I would much rather it be numb than it hurt.

Good luck I wouldn't worry as long as you have a good surgeon your nerves should sort themseleves out over time. X

Chino - I have read the book and have changed my diet over the years and have discovered what triggers my HS. However I found even when I change my diet it still returns and the biggest trigger for me is stress! :-) Also I'm afraid I'm in Australia so I can't go to the HS institute. But thank you so much anyway!

OMG I never heard nerve damage before.. I so scared now. I've had it for over twenty years and was never told about it. I have pain and numbness in my arms all the time. wonder now is that the reason. worried.

Hi all, thanks for your support. The surgery is over and feeling sore but besides that good! Have a long wound under my arm which is covered by a bandage. It is stitched up. Haven't had any effects of any possible nerve damage and the surgeon said all went really well and no damage to the nerves.

Jean, don't worry too much but certainly get it checked out if you're having a lot of pain and numbness. My surgeon told me that nerve damage isn't life threatening but does need to be managed.

Hello Everyone, Its been a while since I been on here, About to have surgey to my arms pits too, been researching H for the last 3 yrs, and seen various Dr's in regards to this HS even thought I have my regular DR but its nothing wrong with with speaking with others in this field of HS... needless to say tried everything even meds. nothing work the last med. I had was Batrim DS .it stop the small one on my butt and inner thigh from growing but. that drug did damage to me in the worst way the side effects WOW. lost of hair , itching, rash etc. So now I read tis about nerve damage...I must say im scare now, But I do believe all will good well I have a good staff of Drs working with me , one in each field from Medical dr, Derm dr, CDC, & plastic surgeron dr. .. as well to learning I devolpe MRSA while having HS.. im just takng it one day at a time.. I pray that one day they will fine a cure for HS

From all I have heard or rather read on several message boards -- I'd say nerve damage is not that uncommon, but usually not severe.

Yes totally! It's 3 weeks after the surgery and no nerve damage to report! Just some scar tissue on the scar itself which feels numb but thats very common and not concerning. Healing up well but has left an ugly scar which I'm happy to have!
