I've been working as a secretary since the 7th of this month. The guy I am working for did have my friend working for him, but she had to take "medical leave" to take care of some health issues, and she gave him my phone number and told him that I would be willing to help out.
My issue is this. He's real big on taking care of your health, at least he seems to be. BUT, I will be seeing the plastic surgeon on the 30th of this month..and I really really want to go ahead and at least get some surgery done on the inside of my left thigh for this one monster that won't quit leaking and stays painful all the time.
But he really needs someone in the shop to make sure customers are taken care of and that things are taken care of in the shop like they need to be as he also goes out on service calls and install calls just like the rest of his employees. And for several weeks he was practically standing on his head trying to take care of stuff in the office AND still go out and do service calls and install calls like he was supposed to..and I can tell you it was really driving him crazy cause the first 3 days I was there he was all over the place like a crazy person.
I know that if/when I do have surgery my plan is to have my leg done, and then just as soon as I am released from the hospital I plan on going right back to work. I think I can handle it. And I REALLY need the work as I am the only person in the house working right now. My mother in law had 6 mini strokes in Nov. and has not been able to work since, and my husband and his dad keep getting under bid on jobs, so they haven't had any luck with that. So I REALLY REALLY need to keep this job.
BUT...I don't want to be dishonest or keep the boss in the dark or anything like that. But it has been so long since I have had to broach the subject or tell anyone about my HS that I am kind of in knots about how to go about explaining what is going on with me. I mean I know the details are kinda none of his business, but I feel like I owe him some kind of explanation, especially since I really need the surgery.
I know he is extremely happy with my work, and has told me every day that I have been there (I have been fortunate enough to not have a flare bad enough to keep me out of the office as of yet) and my husband seems to think that when he finds out what is going on with me that more than likely he will be even more impressed with me rather than anything else scary my silly head can come up with.
(And not to mention that apparently my husband and his dad are related to my new boss...they share the same great great great grandfather apparently).
I just don't know how to go about explaining it delicately as I have never been around someone I felt like I had to explain it to "delicately" before. I'm just tied up in knots worrying about this.

Oh sweetdoms this is a easy fix .... I have to have some out patient surgery on my leg ..... His reply will be for what .... Oh I have HS and basically my sweat glands don't work properly so they are going in and taking those out and fixing the tissue. I usually follow with It's a genetic disorder. Usually the conversation will stop there. And sometimes they know someone that has it. So it works for me. Good luck

Thank you suzy. For the advice. And for talking to me so long tonite. That puts it real simple and sweet. Although at some point I will have to explain that I will need to have more surgery for other areas..but I can "cross that bridge when I come to it". Much love to you hon.
