That's a very good question. Wish I had the answer. I imagine it would be a host of white blood cells fighting the infection, etc. Maybe someone here can be a bit more helpful than I.

hey i have never noticed a smell coming from mine either, mine are just like spots that get red and inflamed and eventually come to a head and what comes out is the same as if you squeezed a spot on your face. Is this what yours are like too? x x x x x

For some Lucky reason some HS suffers don't have the smell. Believe me-If you had the smell-you would know it. It smells like something has crawled into you and died and the smell of that dead thing is coming out of the HS opening. When mine bursts all kinds of oozy nastiness comes out-white, green and yellow pus and sometimes blood.

I know what you mean, ksb. I've compared it to hot, wet garbage. Thank Goddess my husband has no sense of smell lol

Hot wet garbage sounds right. Often mine smells like Garlic. ???? And I don't even eat the stuff! Blah.

@VooDoodoll-It's funny because my boyfriend has a high sense of smell (and has never smelled me) and I can barely smell anything, but this aliens start to smelling I can surely smell them!!!

I also think sometimes because we know what it smells like and we are always self conscious that someone else will smell us and think we are unsanitary or nasty, which we are far from!!

Hello i have the same problem .under my arms it smells very bad sometimes i have to get up at 5 30 in the mourning just to take a shower.and i feel so bad and i know how you feel..

Yeah, mine are very similar to a pimple.... but sometimes after the initial burst, they will clot up and swell, then when I squeeze again blod clots come out. Is that normal?

Mine smell like rotton eggs , and when your out in public and one decides to drain , stinko and head for home! A good question for the Doc.

thats the same question I had....mine dont smell either...but then again I make sure to clean the area atleast twice a day...and I only get them on my armpits...

I have sores under my left armpit that would drain and then after the area because really wet the odour would start. I would shower 2-3x daily and nothing would help I was really starting to get scared that people would notice because at certain times I could smell myself when moving certain ways. But thanks to a discussion I read about Bactine and it's not only helping my sores actually get cleaned, it's gotten rid of the odour 100%
I also use salt crystal deodorant spray know on the area but have to use Bacitine first to stop the pain because the salt crystal deodorant spray burns open sores.

I'm thinking that what is draining out is the collection of white blood cells and stuff that have been sent there to fight an "infection" that just isn't there.
But yeah, when mine leak, ooze or just plain rupture and go for broke, mine smell like something died. and it is horrible.
You would think there would only be a smell if there were an actual infection to fight, but apparently not with me.
So I am using Crystal Deodorant Stick when I don't have to go anywhere important, but if I do have to go somewhere like that, I have been using Degree(I think, not sure, would have to look) with Tea Tree Oil in it. It seems to help keep the odor down much better than Crystal Deodorant Stick. But again I only use it when I have to be out and about around folks as I don't want to over use it and have it clog my pores or cause bigger problems than I already have.
Other than that I use Hibicleans to try to help keep the odors down.

I have ones that smell. .....be happy you don't have ones that smell because if you did you would smell like wet hot dog food and dirty chlorine from a swimming pool some times it smell like poop. ...like the one I have now smells like dirty chlorine its painful and at times I can't feel my hand
