My HS is pretty tame compared to others I've read about, and I thank the Lord everyday for that. However..... I have issues with the purple scars it leaves behind. Has anybody had any luck with scar treatment gels, or minerals, or supplements that minimize the appearance? I talked with my Derm about them, and she said the only option she could give me was to have them removed surgically. :( I find that hard to believe. Any input is appreciated! Hope you all have a great weekend! :)

yeah i,have bad scars too i don,t really know to much about medicine for the scars. i also have hs it is a annoying problem i know.

I have had no success. My scars are old mostly. it is my understanding those treatments work best on new scars. I just do not tempt fate. I'd hate it to cause a problem.

THe most luck I have had is with tanning. I started doing that and it really helps a lot. Even if your tan fades when you stop going it still takes the purple out and evens things out a bit. I also have used Retin-A with no noticible improvement. I researced and am now putting Benzoyl Peroxide 10% on the affected areas. It is said that it has some of the same effects as retin a but also kills the bacteria. I will let you know how it works. PS. If you are still mild, try getting on minocycline. This is the only drug that has worked for me, and doesn't make me feel sick all day. Try to stop it before it gets worse.

Thanks, I've been trying to tan at least twice a week for my acne( I also have cystic acne). I tried to start putting on Mederma when I apply my make up but it is such a hard thing to do because it's very sticky. I will keep you informed though because I've been taking a hair skin and nail vitamin in hopes that something will lessen the appearance of the scars. My derm prescribed Yaz as a suppressant for the lesions... I hope it works with time, I only have 1 or 2 at any given time.

Silica gel has been most helpful with scars for me. Use it for a couple of weeks and it will diffuse the purple in the ones that are not draining. It's also drying to the small, shallow ones that are draining, and even the deeper super-drainers will slow down. It does not hurt, is actually very soothing. You can order it online. I get mine at West Egg Natural Products. I haven't been able to find it in stores yet.

Silica is an important mineral for skin, hair, and nails. I must be difficient in it, as my skin soaks it right up immediately when I apply it. You can take it orally, too...it's popular in Europe to take it to make hair shiny and nails strong...but I've not tried that. After washing with Lever 2000 soap and drying, I apply silica gel with makeup pads to the scarred area. It is clear and does not stain.

Hope this helps some of you. I've been trying the vinilin for two weeks but so far no significant change. Anybody else trying that?
