I saw my dad today for the first time in 3 years. As far as he knows I still live with my mom in florida. I never told him I moved back to toronto because we don't get along at all. The last time I saw him was when I had initially moved back and it was horrible so I decided to save us both and not bother talking to him. Somehow he got my number (first thing I do tomorrow is change it). The whole day was just a stressful irritating mess.
I swear the man thinks he's a doctor. I know I'm not the skinniest girl in the world but I like the way I look and I know a few guys that do too. Everytime I see him he tells me how fat and unattractive I am and how I'm so unhealthy. This disease is the only health problem I have. According to my doctor (who's an actual honest to god doctor) I'm in perfect health. He tells me I need to excersice and I tell him its really hard with this disease but I do get a lot of excersice. My job in itself is a seven hour work out 5 days a week.
He tells me that the doctors don't know what they're doing and that there's no way there's not a cure for this. I just look at him like he's an idiot and ask him if thers a cure for cancer. My sister actually had to grow up under the same roof as him and she just shut down when he went after her but I'm not one to be picked on so he can't understand how I'm so unladylike. He of all people should understand. He used to get leasions too but he just acts like an ass. He know how much pain I'm in but that doesn't matter to him because I don't look the way he wants me to. That's more important to him than anything. Like I don't have enough self esteem issues from this disease.
When he wasn't calling me lazy or making fat jokes he was making rude comments about my mother. The one thing anyone knos about me is you don't talk shit about my mom. She's not perfect but I know she's always done what she thought was best for my brother and I and she's always there when I need her, especially when it comes to defending me against him. I told my sister to call me when he croaks, walked out of that house and took the bus home.
He just proved to me today that I really don't need to see him again until he's in a box. I've given him so many chances, thinking maybe this time would be different but its always the same. Sorry that was so long I had to get that out.

One day he's really gonna need you for something and you should tell him to get bent. Good call on changing your number, i wouldn't talk to him either. He might be your dad, but he sounds pretty ignorant to me. I'd just ignore him.

I don't know how my sister got through it without stabbing him but I told her if she wants to hang out or if her kids want me to come play I'm there but to make sure he's not at her house when I come over because I will leave.
My mom did an amazing job with my brother and I. We're both responsible adults who try to take care of her as much as she'll let us. She's cursed him out many many times on my behalf. She cursed him out when he tried to kick my friends out when they were sleeping over. she cursed him out when he wouldn't let me go out with my friend because he was a guy. She cursed him out when he was yelling at me for applying to art school instead of taking english or math or science in college. She's the only persons approval I care about. She's all the parent I need. Homegirl's got my back.
And yes, it's a hard thing to ignore...when it comes from your own flesh and blood. You tried...there's nothing more to do. This disease will never be understood by those who do not walk in our shoes.
