You people are highly misinformed and quite frankly sound very ignorant.  HS is not an Autoimmune Disease and you can say it is all you want, but perhaps you should get yourself educated a bit more!  It is contained to the hair follicles and glands and has nothing at all to do with your immune system.  Perhaps you also have an autoimmune disesase as well, but it's not HS that is the Autoimmune disease.  Stop looking on the bad sites on the internet and get educated by a Doctor!

Wow Barefoot. Actually I don't have this condition, my 16 year old Niece that I have been raising since her Parents both passed away, has it. It is good to see that you are not a bitter person at all! Learn something from my 16 year old Niece, have a positive attitude in life and realize you are not in the worst position, this condition is not life threatening and just help yourself and go on with your life. You clearly need to get yourself some help for that nasty, angry outlook you have. I doubt that it is this condition that has turned you into the awful person you seem to be. I have a feeling you would be just as unhappy if you were perfectly healthy. :} Cheers Mate!

You seem to be a very angry, nasty, hateful person that is angry at the world. Get yourself some help for that and see if you can't live a happier life. It is clear to all that read your posts that you are an unhappy miserable person. I have the feeling you would be just as unhappy, even if you were completely healthy. :}

I was told by my dermatologist that it is caused by a bacteria that I have in my body that will not ever go away. My RA doc told me it is a desease where as my body is attacking itself. Since antibiotics do not work, I may tend to beleave my RA doc. However, antibiotics used to work on these but only the very strong ones such as Augmentin. I have built an immunity to all antibiotics due to taking so many so my doctor has put me oon Humira. I find that it helps keepp the abcesses from getting so big and has actually made them go away befoore getting to large and painful, until now. I missed a dose of Humira (I miss shot the injection) and at the time I had 2 that were starting. 1 of them went away with my next injection but the other has festered up right on my underwear line. It is very sore and I go to the dermatologist tomorrow and I will ask him to cut it and drain it for mr.

Umm well my HS must be very severe as Humira did not work for me nor did the Remicade infusions. During the time period of me taking Remicade i ended up catching sepsis and ended all medications, now I don't even see my dermatologist at this point.

You are going by very outdated information. It is indeed an autoimmune disease. It has now finally been reclassified as an autoimmune disease and is being treated by rheumatologists. It responds to autoimmune protocols and medications. People like you are similar to doctors that go by outdated information and prescribe ancient treatments that can make the condition worse--
bullheaded stubbornness and unwillingness to consider new information is outright dangerous. It indicates a lack of experience with this disorder. Unfortunately, autoimmune disorders are not "cured" by medications and some,meds will work for some patients and not,for others. That's reality. A lack of response from a medication is not at all proof that the disease is not,in the autoimmune family.

Cindy1 You state that you are a physician...though I doubt it. Physicians do not come on public support forums and talk to people the way you do. You are someone who thinks they know it all and to try and justify your highly aggressive bully of an 'opinion' you say you are a physician. Well I'm sorry honey, but even if you were a physician, you are a very bad one and should have your license revoked.
HS is an autoimmune disease, which has been told to me by several Rheumatologists. I have suffered horribly from HS for 16 years now and I have had some horrible drs, and 1 very good one. She suffered HS as well.
I've had 7 skin and tissue removal surgeries in my groin and vaginal area in 10 months. And yet now, a year later my HS is worse than before. I suffer daily and I've come to this site to meet others who suffer as I do, to learn coping skills and make friends. So please, if all you can do is be negative and rude, then go do it else where. Because HS sufferers need a community of support, we already live in a society of ignorance.
